We will explore the farm, taste some fresh produce, learn about New Mexico heritage, sustainability, and connection to the earth, and enjoy mindfulness meditation with Wellness Specialist José Maresma.   • ¡Baile! Rueda de Casino (Cuban Salsa) Dance Class

    6 pm – 7 pm Beginning and Intermediate - This class is geared for teenagers and adults. Come learn footwork, partner skills and choreography. No experience necessary. 7 pm – 8 pm Intermediate and Advanced - In order to participate in this class, dancers must know how to keep time, closed position calls, dame, enchufla, and outside turn.   • La Pasión de Mariachi: Salute to Mariachi History and Excellence

    6 pm (doors open at 5:30 pm) La Pasión de Mariachi is a celebration of the art form of mariachi. The purpose is to create greater awareness, understanding, and appreciation of traditional and authentic mariachi music by providing insights into the music, band member make-up, and instruments. Mariachi groups, like orchestras, are typically comprised of 18 to 20 members; many of the instruments, such as the guitarrón, are unique to this form of music. Performances will demonstrate various styles within the genre, including son, huapango, and ranchera. (more...)

    7 pm The “princesas” of the film’s title are two young prostitutes on the streets of Madrid: Spanish-born Caye, who is hiding her profession from her middle-class family and is disturbed by the influx of competition from other countries, and Zulema, an undocumented immigrant from the Dominican Republic who is sending money home to her mother and son. As the two struggle to survive for different reasons under stressful circumstances, an unlikely and touching friendship develops.   • Jugamos Juntos: Summer Bosque

    10:30 am to 12 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer free children’s programming during the summer. During June, July, and first Saturday in August, families will be able to come to the Center on Saturday mornings for hands-on art activities, bilingual sing-alongs, outdoor activities in the Bosque and to explore the science of cooking on a rotating basis.     7:30 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm) A special mid-week performance in the series features TradiSón, the house band at La Bodeguita del Medio restaurant in Havana, famous for a storied clientele including Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Neruda. The band, as its name suggests, specializes in the son, a musical form that combines Afro-Cuban rhythms and Spanish melody, while performing other lively Cuban musical genres such as guaracha, guajira, and bolero.   • ¡Salud y Sabor!: Peru

    5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC, is a free evening of food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment.   • AMP Concerts Presents John Gorka (Rental)

    7:30 pm A singer/songwriter famed for his stunningly soulful baritone, John Gorka is one of the leading lights of the new folk movement. In 1987, Gorka cut his debut album, I Know, for the Red House label, winning acclaim for his songs’ subtle wit and acute observations. In the 1990s, he released several albums on the Windham Hill label. Since returning to Red House in 1998, Gorka has released several well-regarded albums, including The Company You Keep and So Dark You See, as well as Red Horse. (more...)
