6 pm to 8 pm  Ángel González was a member of the Spanish Royal Academy, the prestigious, official watchdog of the Spanish language, and won awards that included the Prince of Asturias Prize for Letters in 1985, the Reina Sofía Prize and the García Lorca International Prize, among others. Poesía Eres Tú: Children's Poetry Contest: 9 am to 2 pm Cuentistas 2017: 2:30 pm to 3:45 pm It is a literary contest for New Mexico Middle and High school students, who write about their own choice topics. There are 2 categories of participants: native Spanish speakers and non-Spanish speakers in grades 6th to 12th around the State. This event is part of Semana Cervantina (Cervantine Week) to commemorate the "International Day of the Book" and the "Day of the Spanish Language."

6:30 pm  Award-winning children's author Margarita Engle will read from and sign her acclaimed young adult biography, Enchanted Air, and her latest novel, The Flying Girl, in the historic library of the NHCC’s History & Literary Arts Building. The reading is co-sponsored by the NHCC, the UNM Latin American & Iberian Institute (with support from the U.S. Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center grant) and Bookworks.
