5th Annual South American Folk Fair
Patio | Fountain Courtyard 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM, United States2 pm The 5th Annual South American Folk Fair seeks to unite Albuquerque’s South American community in a day of cultural experience and connection through music, dance, and food. The festival will feature traditional food and folkloric dances from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú and Venezuela. Headlining the event will be Houston-based Pachangara, under the direction of Venezuelan percussionist Gerardo Araujo. Film: The Caborca Jew, A Mexican Story
NHCC-BOD-January-2020-Meeting8 pm A documentary inspired by the narrator’s grandfather, this film tells the real-life story of a Polish immigrant trying to get to the United States to escape both war and poverty, but inadvertently finding himself in Caborca, a small town in Sonora, Mexico. It is a moving and uplifting account of an individual’s strength and commitment to maintain his faith in the face of extraordinary obstacles, including the fact that he is the only Jew in a Catholic community and is unable to speak the language.
