    7 pm The NHCC’s Summer Institutes—Circo Latino, the Manoa Project, and Voces—are presenting performances based on the exhibit The House on Mango Street:  Artists Interpret Community and Sandra Cisneros’ book of the same name. Join Voces for a stirring performance inspired by themes of family, community, identity, and home—appropriate for all ages.  Students from the Voces writing program will perform selected pieces from their month of intensive writing, exploring their own inner voices as well as the themes from the exhibit and novel.   • Spanish Cooking Classes: Tapas!

    6 pm The purpose of Instituto Cervantes’ Spanish Cooking Classes is to learn to cook typical dishes from Spain, always using fresh local ingredients from New Mexico. All attendees will have the opportunity to prepare these dishes from scratch. During the Tapas! class, participants can learn Spanish as well. Our chef is from Spain, and the class is taught in Spanish and translated into English. Tapas, the theme for this month’s class, are one of the best-known appetizers in Spain, combining a variety of ingredients and flavors. (more...)

  • Jugamos Juntos: Cantando la Cultura, Instruments and Sounds of Puerto Rico

  • La Pasión de Mariachi: Salute to Mariachi History and Excellence

    5:30 pm La Pasión de Mariachi is a celebration of the art form of mariachi. The purpose is to create greater awareness, understanding and appreciation of traditional and authentic mariachi music by providing insights into the music, band member make-up, and instruments. Mariachi groups, like orchestras, are typically comprised of 18 to 20 members; many of the instruments, such as the guitarrón, are unique to this form of music.
