Mundos de Mestizaje

12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The Neighborhood Project: Las Voces de Barelas Opening Reception

3 pm - 5 pm The Neighborhood Project: Las Voces de Barelas is a community art initiative by Working Classroom student artists under the instruction of guest teaching artist Adria Malcolm which set out to explore the people of the historic Barelas area through the mediums of environmental portraiture and feature-writing. The project aims to bridge the gap between otherness and commonality through the sharing of the most vital elements of an individual's story. 6 pm to 8:15 pm 6 pm to 7:15 pm—Beginning and Intermediate Class. No experience is necessary to participate in this class. 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm—Advanced Class In order to participate in this class, dancers must come to at least one 6 pm class and be familiar with the vocabulary and movement introduced in these classes. Dance classes are taught by Larry Heard and Rueda 505 Friends. There is no need to pre-register; just show up in comfortable clothes ready to dance! For more information, call (more...)

Happy Thanksgiving!

The National Hispanic Cultural Center will be closed on Thursday, November 28th so our staff and volunteers can spend time with their families for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Visual Arts Museum and the Performing Arts box office will be open on Friday, November 29th from 10 am to 5 pm and the History & Literary Arts library will resume regular hours the following week. First Friday: Volunteer Education and Conversation
