The purpose of this annual music and culture festival is to highlight cultures of the world alongside the traditional cultures of New Mexico. The event utilizes multiple stages at the NHCC\, including the Plaza Mayor\, the Albuquerque Journal Theatre\, and the History and Literary Arts courtyard (the Fountain Stage)\, and features a Global Village of Craft\, Culture\, and Cuisine and a variety of workshops\, demonstrations\, and other family activities\, along with two nights of performances from around the globe. The festival has featured numerous artists from Spain and Latin American countries\, as well as Hispanic artists from New Mexico. The novel also won the 2018 Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children’s Book Award for Older Readers\, and it is currently in production to become a feature film. Her third book\, Crying in the Bathroom: A Memoir\, was just released to critical acclaim (Viking 2022). Please register here. \nSánchez\, a Lobo alumna\, is a Mexican-American poet\, novelist\, and essayist. \nSánchez’s debut poetry collection\, Lessons in Expulsion (Graywolf Press 2017) was released alongside her Young Adult novel\, I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter (Knopf 2017)\, a New York Times bestseller and National Book Award finalist. The novel also won the 2018 Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children’s Book Award for Older Readers\, and it is currently in production to become a feature film. Her third book\, Crying in the Bathroom: A Memoir\, was just released to critical acclaim (Viking 2022). DESCRIPTION:10:00 am \nInfants 0-18 months and their caregivers will have a chance to explore visual arts and even visit the NHCC Art Museum. This multi-sensory program includes time for socializing and art exploration. \nArte Poquito is a free\, monthly\, 45-minute program for infants ages 0 to 18 months and caregivers that nurtures creativity and provides bilingual introductory arts experiences balanced with social interaction. Each program focuses on different aspects of Hispanic/Latine arts\, including music\, dance\, and storytelling. NHCC instructors model the introduction of core arts concepts to infants and caregivers in a supportive environment. \nThis program generously supported through a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico Healthy Kids\, Healthy Families grant.
