A link will be sent out before the first session. \nHow Museums Work is a virtual\, collaborative\, teen\, summer program presented by museum professionals from the  New Mexico Museum of Art\, the New Mexico Office of Archeology\, the National Hispanic Cultural Center Visual Art Museum\, and the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. \nFree community event \n \nAre you 14-18 years old and curious about what it would be like to work in a museum? Do you dig dinosaurs and artifacts? Are you attracted to art? Do you make art yourself? Do you like collecting things and sharing stories about them? This program is open to creative teenagers\, statewide\, who would like to learn more about different types of museums and the exciting work that happens behind the scenes. SUMMARY:Visual Arts Museum: First Sunday Free Admission
DESCRIPTION:10 am to 4 pm \nThe first Sunday of every month the Visual Arts Museum is free to all New Mexico residents. During this time\, visitors are encouraged to explore the NHCC’s Visual Arts Museum art exhibitions such as “Because It’s Time: Unraveling Race and Place in NM” and “Mira\, Mira on the Wall: Reflecting on 20 Years of NHCC Exhibitions.” \nThe number of visitors allowed into the building will be limited in accordance with the most current New Mexico Public Health Order. Reduced occupancy might result in a wait to gain entry. Reserve tickets for the free first Sunday of the month early by clicking on the link below. \n \nAll visitors and employees will be required to wear masks or cloth face coverings at all times. \nThere will be 6-foot social distancing markers and one-way directional flow in high traffic areas within the museum in order to promote a physically distanced and safe environment. \nLearn more about how the Natinoal Hispanic Culture Center and the Department of Cultural Affairs are keeping you safe!

Tickets can also be purchased in the New Mexico Mutual Welcome Center\, depending on availability. Capacity for each tour is limited. \n \nA Vision of History through Fresco… \nMundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. DESCRIPTION:7 pm Saturday\, 2 pm Sunday \nThe Sandia Performing Arts Company (SPAC) presents the film version of their recent production of Reasons.  Directed by Ruben Muller\, Reasons is the dark and disturbing story of Elvino Luis Mulares\, a Mexican American World War II Army veteran who survived the war but still carries the psychological scars\, spanning a 40-year period of his life as an alcoholic with a growing family in mid-century New Mexico. Mulares\, the narrator of his story\, has now died\, and begins speaking to an unknown audience to make a case for why he deserves to be admitted to Heaven\, rather than damned for his mistakes.  The filmed version is just under an hour in length. \nFree ticketed event; tickets available one hour before show
