UNM Decolonizing Nature Conference

¡Salud y Sabor!: Nuevo México
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC, is a free evening of food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment. NHCC-BOD-January-2020-Meeting7 pm Beloved Mexican comic Cantinflas (Mario Moreno) portrays a young lawyer who dedicates himself to resolving the problems of the less fortunate. The title is a play on words deriving from his old professor’s description of him as “un hombre puro, y sin mancha” (a pure man, without stain)—qualities he is perceived to share with Cervantes’ Don Quixote de la Mancha (referring, in this case, to the region of Spain in which Don Quixote lives). San Ysidro blesses the fields, brings rain and discourages drought, and assures a healthy growing season for local crops such as chile, beans, corn and squash. Blum Martinez has worked with and advocated for bilingual students and their families in New Mexico since 1975.
