Arellano has also written short fiction for collections like the recent Let’s Hear Their Voices: Cuban American Writers of the Second Generation (State University of New York Press)\, poems for the forthcoming first edition of the New Mexico Poetry Anthology (Museum of New Mexico Press)\, and five more novels including Curse the Names: a New Mexico Noir. He has been awarded fellowships by the Rockefeller Foundation and Ford Family Foundation and served on the faculties at Brown University\, the Institute of American Indian Arts\, UNM-Taos and Southern Oregon University. He is currently at work on the third novel in the Cuban Noir series as well as a nonfiction book about the hardcore-punk and metalhead youth of post-revolutionary Cuba titled Friki.

This July\, Pedro Zerolo of Madrid’s Cinemateca\, whose political activism helped enact Spain’s same-sex marriage law\, has selected seven works that reflect the life stories of people of all ages\, and especially those who have had to flee their countries because of their sexual orientation. \nMost of the films presented in this cycle\, Encuentros diversos: Cortometrajes LGTBIQ+/Diverse Encounters: LGTBIQ+ Short Films\, are documentaries; two feature films are directed by recently deceased filmmaker Roberto Pérez Toledo. His prolific career was committed to the theme of the cycle\, which serves as a tribute to him. DESCRIPTION:10:00 am \nChildren 18 months to 4 years explore the arts through singing bilingual Spanish/English songs using rhythm instruments for accompaniment and a floor piano pad keyboard for toddlers. \n \nExplorar las Artes is a free\, bi-monthly 45-minute program for toddlers ages 18 months to 4 years and caregivers that cultivates creativity and self-expression through the exploration of Hispanic/Latine arts and culture. Participants explore the NHCC museum and engage in artmaking\, music\, movement\, dance\, drama\, and bilingual story time. NHCC instructors model age-appropriate arts techniques that celebrate self-expression\, build vocabulary\, and strengthen both fine-motor and gross-motor skills in a fun environment.  \nThis program generously supported through a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico Healthy Kids\, Healthy Families grant.

Tours of the fresco are offered Thursdays and Fridays at 11am. Located in the Torreón on the NHCC Campus\, Mundos de Mestizaje depicts thousands of years of Hispanic culture\, history\, and identity. \nAdmission for the tour is $2 and tickets are available for advance purchase below.
