A versatile ensemble of talented Albuquerque musicians, including Jim Ahrend, Mathias Rodríguez, Jackie Zamora, Victor Rodríguez, Tony Quiñones, Janet Harman, and César Bauvallet, performs some of the most beautiful and nostalgic classics of Latin cultures.     6 pm – 7 pm Beginning and Intermediate - This class is geared for teenagers and adults. Come learn footwork, partner skills and choreography. No experience necessary. 7 pm – 8 pm Intermediate and Advanced - In order to participate in this class, dancers must know how to keep time, closed position calls, dame, enchufla, and outside turn.   • Domingos en Arte: TradiSón

    7:30 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm) A special mid-week performance in the series features TradiSón, the house band at La Bodeguita del Medio restaurant in Havana, famous for a storied clientele including Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Neruda. The band, as its name suggests, specializes in the son, a musical form that combines Afro-Cuban rhythms and Spanish melody, while performing other lively Cuban musical genres such as guaracha, guajira, and bolero. Body isolation movements, reggaeton, and Latin Hip Hop on August 1 and August 8 7-8 pm in the Salon Ortega at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. All ages and all levels welcome. Carlota began dancing at the age of 2. She currently teaches jazz, hip-hop, tap, and contemporary dance at Fishback studio of dance.   • ABQ Latin Dance Festival 2017: Timbalive

    7 pm to 12 am The annual Albuquerque Latin Dance Festival, a three-day celebration of rhythm and movement, features performances by world-class dancers as well as non-competitive dance showcases, parties, and workshops. Additional attractions include dance films, lectures, and live musical performances. Friday night’s event, following Latin Dance Night in Old Town, is a fun-filled evening of salsa dancing at the NHCC.  The festival’s main concert on Saturday night features Leo García and Timbalive, for a magical night of music and dance on the Center’s Plaza Mayor. (more...)
