    9:30 am – 12 pm On the first Friday of each month, NHCC docents and core volunteers meet for coffee and conversation along with monthly presentations on topics that build the knowledge and skills of the docent core to give tours, educate the NHCC visitors and share the NHCC mission and programs.   • International Women’s Day Celebration

  • Film: Las constituyentes

    7 pm A documentary about the 27 women who served in the Spanish legislature in 1977, promoting political change during Spain’s transition to democracy following the end of the Franco regime. Through their personal experiences, the film traces the history of women’s political involvement in Spain up to the present day, and includes a debate between these pioneering women, the “mothers of the constitution,” and women currently serving in the Spanish parliament.   • Siembra, Latino Theatre Season: Hembras de Pluma Present Rise: An Offering

    March 9-12 & 16-19, 2017 7:30 pm—Thursday-Saturday 2 pm—Sunday Hembras de Pluma—“feathered women,” or “women wielding the pen”—is a collective of women artists who have come together to present personal stories of childhood, growing older, loss, love, grief and joy, told as monologues and short plays, and written and performed to honor their histories, their ancestors, their families, and themselves.     THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT! 8 pm Pussy Riot is a Russian all-female protest art collective based in Moscow. Founded in March 2011, it had a variable membership of approximately 11 women. They gained global notoriety when five members of the group staged a performance inside Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Savior in 2012, which led to the extended imprisonment of three of the members.     5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC, is a free evening of food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment.
