Mexican Independence Day Celebration in partnership with the Mexican Consul
Patio | Fountain Courtyard 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM, United States5:30 – 7:30 pm In collaboration with the Consulate of Mexico, the National Hispanic Cultural Center is proud to host a celebration of Mexican Independence Day featuring vendors, dancing, and much more! On Sept. 12, the Center will be joined by the Consulate of Mexico providing a formal flag unveiling and the traditional Grito, a celebration announcement of independence. 5:00 - 7:00 pm Join us for a free public reception celebrating the opening of Rendered Presence: Artistas de Nuevo México. Guest curated by Vicente Telles, the exhibition explores artworks by artists living and working throughout New Mexico. Many of the artworks are figurative and created on a scale that challenges limited understandings of New Mexican art. In their own way, each artist explores identity and the self, art history, and the expanse of Hispanic, Chicana/o/x, and Latina/o/x contemporary art. Classes run for four consecutive Wednesdays from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught colcha, a Spanish Colonial embroidery style, to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist, most recently recognized in 2019 at Traditional Spanish Market in Santa Fe. Annette is taking September off.
