He began painting traditional retablos using natural pigments created from clays and minerals on homemade gesso\, which is then sealed with an archival varnish. Always looking for ways to push boundaries\, his style has evolved to include various interpretations of traditional Catholic and cultural iconography\, which is evident in his social commentary retablos and his ongoing border culture series. In recent years\, Telles has worked to honor his network of fellow artists and is engaging in opportunities to expand network connections through organizing art shows throughout the southwest. Recently\, he was instrumental in organizing the multi-site exhibition Son de Allí y son de Acá in Albuquerque as well as in San Diego at Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center. \nAcerca del curador: \nVicente Telles es un Santero y Iconógrafo Cultural que es motivado por su deseo de honrar la cultura y tradiciones de su Nuevo México natal. Comenzó pintando retablos tradicionales usando pigmentos creados de arcillas y minerales en yeserías hecho en casa que después se sella con un barniz de archivo. DESCRIPTION:2:00 am (MST) \nIn this online film series\, which plays throughout the month of September on the Instituto Cervantes Vimeo channel\, we bring together\, in collaboration with the Punto y Raya platform\, four sessions with experimental pieces that allow us to explore the possibilities of the audio-visual image and abstraction as a form of creation: a freer creation\, where form\, color\, movement and sound compose evocative messages. \nThe short films will be available on the Cervantes Institute’s Vimeo channel for one week\, starting at 2:00 am on September 19. \nLink Generaciones: https://vimeo.com/video/963031836 \nLink El País del futuro: https://vimeo.com/video/963034780 \nThe Tunisian cities of Tunis and Sousse were the setting for two workshops coordinated by the Instituto Cervantes of Tunis under the title “Counterline and Counterpoint” held in November 2023. \nAbstracción en movimiento: Punto y Raya at the Instituto Cervantes \nStudents from the Lycée Pierre Mendès France in Tunis and the Mhamed Driss Lycée Français International in Sousse were guided by the founders of the international platform Punto y Raya\, dedicated to the production\, promotion and education of audiovisual arts in its purest form\, Ana Santos and Nöel Palazzo\, to create two abstract audiovisual works inspired by the classical mosaics housed in some museums in Tunisia. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught colcha\, a Spanish Colonial embroidery style\, to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist\, most recently recognized in 2019 at Traditional Spanish Market in Santa Fe. Annette is taking September off. Canal Vimeo HERE. \nThe fourth edition of Spanish Film Day\, to be held on October 6\, is presented as the consolidation of an event that aims to raise awareness of the importance of Spanish film heritage as an essential part of contemporary culture. \nFor the first time\, the film selected to commemorate this day is directed by a woman. It is 7 mesas (de billar francés)\, the fifth feature film by Gracia Querejeta\, a filmmaker who belongs to a family that is an essential reference in Spanish cinema. \n \nThis family melodrama showcases all the ingredients of the concern for human relationships that Spanish cinema has maintained throughout its history. With a great cast headed by actresses Maribel Verdú and Blanca Portillo\, the film’s story of solidarity and self-improvement shows a way of life that underlines women’s ability to reinvent themselves in times of crisis. \nThe neighborhood setting makes the billiard tables that title this cinematographic work become an image that symbolizes a world resistant to the onslaught of the fluid life we seem to live today.
