This is a guided tour of the Mundos de Mestizaje fresco created by artist Frederico Vigil\, located in the Torreón on the NHCC Campus\, depicting thousands of years of Hispanic culture\, history\, and identity. \nAdmission to the tour is $2 and tickets are available for advance purchase below. Tickets can also be purchased in the New Mexico Mutual Welcome Center\, depending on availability. Capacity for each tour is limited. \nA Vision of History through Fresco…\nMundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. DESCRIPTION:8:30 pm \nNHCC | Albuquerque Journal Theatre \nNational Institute of Flamenco and the NHCC present Festival Flamenco Alburquerque: Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía: “PINEDA.” Federico García Lorca wrote Mariana Pineda “at barely twenty years old and with a strong romantic flavor\,” as he stated in an interview after its first premiere. However\, the origins of the play trace back to the poet’s childhood in Granada and young Federico’s encounter with the bronze statue of the liberal heroine\, “proud upon the column\, her hair loose\, her gaze fixed on the sky\, clutching the flag of liberty against her body.” Lorca also recalled himself holding hands with other children\, singing the verses of a popular ballad “in a melancholic tone\, which seemed tragic to me.” Early in his career as a playwright\, the poet felt the poetic imperative to transform that “profound childhood impression” into a theatrical work. \n“There are a thousand different Marianas of Pineda. The heroic Mariana\, the motherly Mariana\, the Mariana in love\, the embroidering Mariana\, but I wasn’t going to ‘create’ them all.” This is how Federico García Lorca described his protagonist after the 1927 premiere of the play. Among all these possible Marianas\, we have chosen to focus on the one Lorca himself evoked: “a woman of deep Spanish roots\, who sings of love and freedom in the verses of her life in a way that captures the universal essence of these two great sentiments\,” embodying “freedom itself.” \nIn her debut as Artistic Director of the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía\, Granada-born Patricia Guerrero takes on the challenge of giving body and soul to Pineda. This version explores the full spiritual and expressive power of Lorca’s dramatic poem. Accompanied by an exceptional team\, Patricia Guerrero delivers a vibrant and electrifying Pineda\, both rooted in Granada and universal\, and unequivocally flamenco. DESCRIPTION:2:00 to 4:00 pm  \nJoin the curator and artist Vicente Telles along with artists Vanessa Alvarado\, Eric Romero\, and Daisy Quezada Ureña for a fun and casual afternoon celebrating the NHCC art exhibition Rendered Presence: Artistas de Nuevo México.  \nAttendees will have a chance to walk through the exhibit with the artists. Community\, artists and NHCC staff will sit and relax in the museum while participating in engaging conversation. We will meet on the fourth Wednesday of every month in the Center’s HLA Conference Room. \nFor the month of July\, we will be reading Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s The Seventh Veil of Salome. In 1950s Hollywood\, when an unknown Mexican ingenue is cast as Salome\, a star-making role in a big-budget movie about the legendary heroine\, she becomes the object of envy of Nancy Hartley\, a bit player who will do anything to win the fame she believes she richly deserves. \nFree community event. DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm \nNHCC | Albuquerque Journal Theatre \nJoin Santa Fe’s own Zeitgeist Dance Theatre — one of New Mexico’s most compelling companies — for an electrifying evening of world-class contemporary dance. Zeitgeist Dance Theatre is proudly joined for the evening by the New Century Dance Project Contemporary Ensemble. Five original works by acclaimed choreographers Francisco Gella\, Yusha-Marie Sorzano\, Noelle Keyser\, Joshua Whitehead\, and Rhaine Marquardt come to life with over 70 exceptional dancers from around the world commanding the stage. The evening’s centerpiece honors Santa Fe’s 20th year as a UNESCO Creative City\, paying tribute to New Mexico’s rich heritage through the story and work of contemporary artist Emily Trujillo and her Chimayo weaving roots. \nZDT’s concert is presented as part of the New Century Dance Project: New Mexico’s Festival of Performance & Choreography held on July 26 – August 3 in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. This annual festival from Artistic Director Francisco Gella unites dance artists across diverse genres\, offering a unique laboratory for artistic development.
