SUMMARY:AfroMundo Festival: Together We Heal: A Community Healing Circle
DESCRIPTION:2:00 – 4:00 pm \nNHCC | Salon Ortega \nSacred Spring Reiki Collective will lead a healing circle for community members and organizers at the 2025 AfroMundo Festival: Troubled Territories—The Will to Heal.  This session will bring people together to heal in community; reminding us that we are all connected and are stronger and wiser together. We don’t have to face our fears or problems alone.  Communally\, we can overcome great challenges. Together We Heal will help to calm the mind through the practice of intentional breathing\, gentle movement\, and reiki energy healing so that we can tap into the deep well of ancestral wisdom we each carry within and thus access our inner resources and gifts. \nReiki practitioners and community healers will join efforts to create a sanctuary of safety and calmness in which participants can take a break to relax and renew. We will open the circle with a gently guided QiGong/Yoga flow to get into our bodies\, followed by Reiki Practitioners moving around the circle sharing reiki energy through their hands\, which are placed gently on your head\, shoulders and heart area to help you attain a deep state of relaxation. During the reiki healing we will offer a guided meditation and sound bath. We will close the circle with time to reflect and share your experience. The total time in the healing circle is 120 minutes. \n* The format of this session is inspired by Freedom to Heal\, a healing program that many groups of people have experienced throughout the years and in different community settings. In this group different healing modalities are used to create a community space of safety and healing. Participants in these circles report having received great benefits by healing together with other community members. \nFree community event. Limited availability

SUMMARY:Reception: Voces del Pueblo: Artists of the Levantamiento Chicano in New Mexico
DESCRIPTION:5:00 – 7:30 pm \nJoin us for a free public reception celebrating the opening of the exhibition\, Voces del Pueblo: Artists of the Levantamiento Chicano in New Mexico\, curated by Ray Hernández-Durán\, Ph.D. and Irene Vásquez\, Ph.D. \nThis is an exhibition 7 years in the making that feature a group of New Mexican artists who were among the earliest generation of Chicana and Chicano activists in the state. All 6 artists\, 3 men and 3 women\, were students at New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) in Las Vegas in the early 1970s when Chicano scholar Pedro Rodríguez was hired as the inaugural Director of Chicano Studies at NMHU. It was at NMHU that these young men and women became politically activated and proceeded to paint murals\, produce art\, and organize in New Mexico as part of the nascent Chicano civil rights movement that was unfolding nationally. The artworks on display capture a distinctly New Mexican Chicana and Chicano experience that has received little attention in Chicano art history. \nArtists: \nIgnacio Jaramillo \nJuanita J. SUMMARY:Festival Ballet Albuquerque: Romeo & Juliet Ballet
DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm Saturday\n2:00 pm Sunday \nFestival Ballet Albuquerque presents an original production of Romeo & Juliet\, the two star-crossed lovers\, by William Shakespeare\, to the music by Sergei Prokofiev. It is a story about an age-old feud between two powerful families\, Capulets and Montagues\, erupting into bloodshed. A group of masked Montagues risk further conflict by gatecrashing the Capulet’s ball. A young lovesick Romeo Montague falls instantly in love with Juliet Capulet\, who is due to marry her father’s choice\, Count Paris. With the help of Juliet’s nurse\, the women arrange for the couple be married the following day by Friar Lorence. Romeo’s attempt to halt a street fight leads to the death of his friend Mercutio and he kills Tybalt\, Juliet’s own cousin\, in revenge. Romeo is banished from Verona. In a desperate attempt to be reunited with Romeo\, Juliet follows the Friar’s plot and fakes her own death. The message fails to reach Romeo\, and believing Juliet dead\, he takes his life in her tomb. When Juliet wakes and realizes his mistake\, she follows him into death. The grieving families agree to end their feud. \nAlex Ossadnik\, a native of former East Germany was trained under government scholarship on the Palucca School in Dresden from 1979-1987. During his performing career he danced for companies in Weimar\, Germany\, Bordeaux\, France\, Nevada Dance Theatre and Oregon Ballet Theatre. He co-founded numerous companies\, including Santa Fe Festival Ballet and Ballet Pro Musica. Not a stranger to Albuquerque’s dance scene\, his work is known to be approachable and engaging for all audiences. While having choreographed for Festival Ballet Albuquerque several times\, “Romeo and Juliet” is his first major collaboration to the iconic score by Sergei Prokofiev. \n$14\, $22\, $30\, $40 & $49 w/ $2 discount for seniors and children 10years old and younger \n\n*The event is a rental event not an NHCC production.
