SUMMARY:Film: Hecho en México
DESCRIPTION:7 pm \nDuncan Bridgeman’s 2012 film has been described as “a musical reflection on the current state of Mexican identity\,” “an inspiring road trip through modern-day ‘Mexicanity\,’” and “a beautiful and rhythmic cinematic tapestry.” Shot over multiple locations\, from the Mexico City subway to the Tijuana border\, from remote mountain area to beaches\, the brilliant\, colorful cinematography showcases the beauty of the country. With music underlying the various broad themes—such as love and death—explored in the film\, elders and youths\, including singers\, poets\, actors\, scholars\, and media personalities\, come together to speak about their craft and their homeland\, offering both a celebration and a critique of Mexican life today. Among the artists featured are Chavela Vargas\, Alejandro Fernández\, Lila Downs\, and Los Tucanes de Tijuana. “Hecho en México takes you into the inner circle of an extraordinarily rich and diverse culture.”\nSpanish with English subtitles; 101 minutes; rated R.\nThis is a free ticketed event with tickets available one hour prior to the screening.
