SUMMARY:Instituto Cervantes Film Series: Día del Cine Español: 7 mesas (de billar francés)
DESCRIPTION:The film will be available on the Cervantes Institute’s Vimeo channel for 48 hours\, starting at 12:00 pm (MTS) on October 5. Instituto Cervantes. Canal Vimeo HERE. \nThe fourth edition of Spanish Film Day\, to be held on October 6\, is presented as the consolidation of an event that aims to raise awareness of the importance of Spanish film heritage as an essential part of contemporary culture. \nFor the first time\, the film selected to commemorate this day is directed by a woman. It is 7 mesas (de billar francés)\, the fifth feature film by Gracia Querejeta\, a filmmaker who belongs to a family that is an essential reference in Spanish cinema. \n \nThis family melodrama showcases all the ingredients of the concern for human relationships that Spanish cinema has maintained throughout its history. With a great cast headed by actresses Maribel Verdú and Blanca Portillo\, the film’s story of solidarity and self-improvement shows a way of life that underlines women’s ability to reinvent themselves in times of crisis. \nThe neighborhood setting makes the billiard tables that title this cinematographic work become an image that symbolizes a world resistant to the onslaught of the fluid life we seem to live today. The struggle to rescue and revive these spaces of coexistence results in a wonderful hymn to the preponderance of public space and its inestimable value for citizenship. \nThe film had a remarkable national and international tour: in addition to its presence in various festivals\, the actresses Maribel Verdú and Amparo Baró were awarded the goya awards for best female main cast performance\, respectively. 7 mesas (de billar francés)\, produced and premiered in the 21st century\, forces us to think that heritage continues to be created at all times in the cinematographic sphere\, where production continues to be a significant reference in the lives of spectators. \nDirector/s: Gracia Querejeta | Year: 2007 | Format: Digital | Running time: Largometraje – 112 min | Genre: Ficción/Fiction | Country: España/Spain | Original version: español/Spanish | Subtitles: inglés/English | Rated/Calificacion: TP/All audiences \n

SUMMARY:Festival Ballet Albuquerque: Sacred Journeys V
DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm Friday & Saturday\, 2:00 pm Sunday \nNHCC | Albuquerque Journal Theatre \nFestival Ballet Albuquerque presents Sacred Journeys V featuring Robert Mirabal. \nClassical and contemporary dance combine with the eclectic music of two-time Grammy award-winning Taos Pueblo musician Robert Mirabal in this reflection of New Mexican cultures through dance\, music\, and spoken word. Mirabal collaborates with Festival Ballet Albuquerque’s artistic director Patricia Dickinson Wells and with internationally renowned New York City Ballet dancer Jock Soto\, of Navajo and Puerto Rican descent. Soto\, who is originally from Gallup and will also make guest appearances onstage\, now lives in Eagle Nest\, NM. \nAdditional choreographers for the production are native New Mexican Dominic Guerra\, and internationally known Vladimir Conde-Reche\, a native of São Paulo\, Brazil\, and Alex Ossadnik originally from East Germany. Additional guest artists include the Trujillo Family traditional Native American dancers. \n \nRobert Mirabal\, dedicated to keeping alive the centuries-old customs of Taos Pueblo\, is also a leading proponent of world music\, and has merged his Indigenous American sound with the music of Africa\, Asia\, and the Caribbean\, tapping into a planetary pulse with a style that defies characterization. His 2002 breakthrough PBS special\, Music from a Painted Cave\, is unsurpassed in Native American theatrical expression. He performs live with his band\, Rare Tribal Mob. \nA former principal dancer with the New York Ballet\, Jock Soto was one of the last dancers to be personally selected by founder George Balanchine when he was barely 16. He danced featured roles in over 40 ballets\, of which more than 35 were created for him. The author of Every Step You Take and the subject of the documentary Water Flowing Together (the name of his Navajo clan)\, Soto teaches partnering and technique classes at the School of American Ballet\, where he has been a permanent member of the faculty since 1996. \nSacred Journeys V brings together the rich and diverse culture of our state\, while providing extraordinary role models for New Mexico’s youth. \nSACRED JOURNEYS V: The Live Performance Recording was honored to be screened in 2021 at the Red Nation International Film festival and the American Indian Film Festival. \n$16\, $25\, $35\, $45\, $55 w/ a $2 discount for seniors\, children 10 and younger and NHCC members
