Jesús Muñoz Flamenco, Live!

8 pm, both evenings Jesús Muñoz Flamenco presents the company’s new production, Live!, showcasing the artistry of 12 internationally renowned dancers and musicians from Spain to Latin America. Participating performers have composed for platinum flamenco albums, prestigious dance companies, and popular artists such as José Merce, El Barrio, Marc Anthony, and Andrea Bocelli. Jesús Muñoz Flamenco takes a year-long hiatus from themed productions to dive into an exploration of ideas and the explosive dynamic of flamenco collaboration. Aliento: State Street Ballet’s Carmen

7:30 pm—Saturday 2 pm—Sunday Inspired by Georges Bizet’s blazingly popular score, State Street Ballet’s original full-length production of Carmen has dazzled audiences from coast to coast. Choreographer William Soleau retells the tale of the magnetically beautiful gypsy and her desperate lover in a contemporary ballet style that weaves together both classical and modern influences. Intricate storytelling, enigmatic choreography, and Bizet’s passionate, immortal music make this Carmen a true tour-de-force of theatrical drama. $12, $17, $22 w/ $2 off for students, seniors, and NHCC members

Its unique Urban Latin Dance Theater brings to life voices not traditionally heard on the concert stage, while building community and facilitating dialogue. 10 am The NHCC’s annual celebration of Carnaval is a dazzling spectacle of vibrant dance, engaging music, and beautiful costumes, featuring the band PANdemonium and the Odara Dance Ensemble and showcasing the Carnaval celebrations of Cuba, Trinidad, Brazil and New Orleans. 8 pm Casa Flamenca and the NHCC present Jesús Muñoz Flamenco in Red Note—borrowed from the tastefully symbolic "Blue Note Jazz Club" and exploring dynamic, visionary movements in dance, music, and visual art inspired by cante flamenco. Like jazz, flamenco has its roots in raw, intimate improvisation upon standard structures; it improvises through interpretations of the structures of cante jondo, or deep song.
