These classes will foster an intergenerational learning atmosphere. Bring your kids! Bring your grandparents! Bring your neighbors! In 2012, the NHCC partnered with the Barelas Coffee House to present the Rock ‘n’ Soul Show and Revue, then in its seventh year. This event, showcasing great rock, soul, R&B and New Mexico rancherita tunes from the 1960s through the 1980s, recreated the touring shows performed in legendary Albuquerque venues during those years and provided a forum for the reunion (more...)
¡Salud y Sabor! Local Herbs/Yerbas
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC, is a free evening of food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment. Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto and Baracutanga
Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts: Albuquerque Journal Theatre 1701 4th St SW, Albuquerque, NM7:30 pm Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto, a traditional folkloric cumbia group from Colombia’s Caribbean region, has been active since 1940. Their music preserves the traditional rhythms and sounds that are the product of a mixture of Indigenous, Spanish, and Afro-Colombian heritage. Dating back at least to the time of Bolivar, gaitero music is played on two flutes (gaitas) and a maraca, both of Indigenous origin, and drums of African origin, through the descendants of the many African slaves who passed through the country’s Caribbean coast. Circo Radical Performance
6 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center’s Circo Radical Ensemble is delighted to invite you to their original performance for the summer of 2018. This new, multi-generational circus performance is built by 10 advanced circus students along with 10 professional circus artists who work together intensively over 10 days to conceptualize, train, research, design, and develop new work using stilts, live music, juggling, aerials, clown and mask.
