Chispa: Latin Diva Series, Vanessa Zamora
NHCC-Newsletter-November-2-307:30 pm Born in Tijuana, Baja California to parents who were both pianists, acoustic folk-pop singer/songwriter Vanessa Zamora became interested in the performing arts as a child. She began piano lessons at the age of eight, and continued a year later with guitar and drums. While a student at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, she began uploading videos covering favorite songs by various artists on YouTube and social networking sites. Born to African parents in Mallorca, Spain, she is often compared to Nina Simone, Chavela Vargas, and Cesaria Evora. La Pasión de Mariachi: Salute to Mariachi History and Excellence

The purpose is to create greater awareness, understanding and appreciation of traditional and authentic mariachi music by providing insights into the music, band member make-up, and instruments. Mariachi groups, like orchestras, are typically comprised of 18 to 20 members; many of the instruments, such as the guitarrón, are unique to this form of music.
