SUMMARY:The Mountains Wore Down to the Valleys
DESCRIPTION:The Mountains Wore Down to the Valleys closes on April 23. In the final days of the exhibition\, experience 21 musical compositions on vinyl records playing once more in the gallery as they erode and change over time. Visit during NHCC Museum hours\, 10am – 4pm\, April 21 – 23. \nThe Mountains Wore Down to the Valleys is a collaborative sound and visual installation by New Mexican artists Adri De La Cruz and Marisa Demarco. The multi-phase exhibition begins and ends with a sound experience that transforms over the course of 72 hours as 21 musical compositions on vinyl records erode over time.  Stories of strength emanate from another record that plays multigenerational interviews with one artist’s family members. This record\, a document of lineage\, endures. Etched portraits of the interviewees are presented on the reverse side of eight records on visual display. \nThe exhibit is an exploration of love\, family\, community\, and the perseverance of generations. Each component symbolizes an experience—the grooves on a record much like mountains and valleys\, the materials\, strong and enduring\, yet fragile and malleable. \n

SUMMARY:Juan Carmona
DESCRIPTION:7:30 pm \nAMP Concerts presents French guitar virtuoso Juan Carmona\, the perfect symbol of flamenco’s rebirth. While proud of his Andalusian Gypsy roots\, Carmona insists on moving beyond the typical ethnic clichés. Respected in all musical fields\, including classical music\, he has built bridges between flamenco and other musical genres. His performances have a surprising\, moving quality. Somewhere between profound awareness of musical genres\, mastery of traditional styles\, and a devastating modernity\, Carmona stands as an innovator. \n$32 \n \nInstituto Cervantes\, AMP Concerts\, and the National Hispanic Cultural Center present the second edition of the Oralidad Festival. Oralidad is born with two essential purposes: to promote the oral tradition of storytelling and to establish a collaboration between artists from New Mexico\, Spain\, Latin America\, and the rest of the United States to create new works together and contribute to the improvement of storytelling. \n\nThe title\, content\, photos/images and description for this event were provided to the NHCC by the organization renting the NHCC venue for the event. The nominations were then judged by the Committee and this year seven nominees were chosen for recognition of their lifetime achievement. \n2022 Inductees:\nStefani Montiel\, Roberto Griego\, John Truitt\, Tony Quiñones\, Sugie Padilla\, Eddie Garcia\nLifetime achievement award: Dick Bills \n$12 Balcony\, $22 Orchestra and Mezzanine \n \nThe New Mexico Music Hall of Fame award show is dedicated to them and is a chance for many of their fans and friends to give heartfelt thanks for all they have done for the musical arts of New Mexico. \nThe stories of each of our honorees are testimonies to lives well lived and the generosity of spirit. Their artistry and innovations continue to inspire and provide direction for so many.
