Arte Para Chiquitos

Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM

10:00 – 10:45 am Arte para chiquitos is a free, monthly, 45-minute program for babies and toddlers ages 0 months to 4 years and their caregivers that cultivates creativity and self-expression through the exploration of Hispanic/Latine arts and culture. Participants explore the NHCC Museum, Performing Arts Center, and engage in artmaking, music, movement, dance, drama, and bilingual story time. NHCC instructors model age-appropriate arts techniques that celebrate self-expression, build vocabulary, and strengthen both fine-motor and gross-motor skills in a fun environment. Stitch Night

5:00 to 7:00 pm Stitch socially with us on the second Wednesday of the Month! Bring whatever knitting, crocheting, weaving, or cross stitch, or fiber art projects you’re working on, and join the conversation with your fellow crafters for an informal craft get-together. If you would like to learn the basics of a particular stitching technique, please bring supplies with you, though we will always have basic crochet and knitting materials on hand for an impromptu demonstration! Latin Dance for Seniors

1:30 – 3:30 pm Latin Dance for Seniors will feature 4 weeks of Latin dance lessons taught by instructor Carlota Silva. Classes run for four consecutive Wednesdays from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Latin Dance for Seniors is part of the NHCC’s Siempre Creativo program which provides a free multidisciplinary arts programs for seniors. A free Community Event, generously supported by AARP. Instituto Cervantes Film Series: Con ton y son

2:00 am (MST) In this online film series, which will play throughout the month of September on the Instituto Cervantes Vimeo channel, we bring together, in collaboration with the Punto y Raya platform, four sessions with experimental pieces that allow us to explore the possibilities of the audio-visual image and abstraction as a form of creation: a freer creation, where form, color, movement and sound compose evocative messages. Exhibit Reception: Rendered Presence: Artistas de Nuevo México

5:00 - 7:00 pm Join us for a free public reception celebrating the opening of Rendered Presence: Artistas de Nuevo México. Guest curated by Vicente Telles, the exhibition explores artworks by artists living and working throughout New Mexico. Many of the artworks are figurative and created on a scale that challenges limited understandings of New Mexican art. In their own way, each artist explores identity and the self, art history, and the expanse of Hispanic, Chicana/o/x, and Latina/o/x contemporary art. Colcha Community Stitch A-Long

9:30 am in-person 10:30 am Zoom – cancelled for September, please check back next month Our Colcha Community Stich-A-Long is open to all levels of experience in an informal setting. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught colcha, a Spanish Colonial embroidery style, to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist, most recently recognized in 2019 at Traditional Spanish Market in Santa Fe. Annette is taking September off.
