Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM10 am to 5 pm Each year the Education Department at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, works with schools and community organizations, to host an Ofrenda (altar) Exhibit, in celebration of Día de los Muertos. Your altar Installation dates are October 12-14, 2016 The exhibit runs October 18-November 11, 2016 Please provide your own tables, boxes or structure for you Altar. Making Art: Día de los Muertos Workshop
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM9:30 am or 11:30 am School groups attend a 90-minute session which includes a short lecture on the history of the celebration, a hands-on art station, and a guided tour of our student created ofrenda (altar) installations. Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM4 pm to 5:30 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center will hold its annual Despedida to celebrate Día de los Muertos with music, poetry and hands-on art making at this time-honored community gathering. This is a great event for all ages. Workshop - Mini Ofrendas & Sugar Skulls at 4 pm to 5:30 pm Tour the ofrendas around the NHCC campus; enjoy music, traditional chocolate mexicano, pan de muertos, and sharing of special and heartfelt memories. Join the NHCC and experienced, knowledgeable local artists to learn about the meaning of this celebration, the traditional arts and crafts associated with the celebration and development of ofrendas that honor families and individuals. ¡Vamos al Museo!: Día de los Muertos: Sugar Skulls & Mini Ofrendas
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM10:30 am to 12:30 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer children’s programming on the first Saturday morning of every month. This is a fun and engaging docent and artist-led family program. Families (limited to 25 participants) get a 30-minute museum tour focused on an art form, source inspiration, artist or type of material. ¡Salud y Sabor! Chocolate/Chocolate–Dia de los Muertos
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC, is a free evening of food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment.
