United in Blood is a fully staged performance celebrating the artistic, social, and political vision of four of Chile’s most beloved musicians and poets: Pablo Neruda, Victor Jara, Violeta Parra, and Gabriela Mistral. Nuestra Herencia: Genealogy Workshop for Seniors

1:30 to 3:30 pm Explore your cultural heritage at the NHCC with free genealogy workshop as part of our Nuestra Herencia program! Nuestra Herencia will provide participating seniors with the opportunity to participate in interactive tours of the NHCC Art Museum and Torreón, paired with genealogy workshops and coffee socials. Afro Mundo: Lead Me Home

7:00 pm: Social Justice Film Screening, Panel Discussion to immediately follow. More than 500,000 people experience homelessness every night in America. Lead Me Home is a documentary short that tells a few of these real-life stories giving the audience a rare, in-depth look at the scale, scope, and diversity of what it means to be unsheltered today while calling into question uninformed attitudes and outmoded policies. Mundos de Mestizaje: Torreón Tour

11:00 am (MST) The National Hispanic Cultural Center is offering a guided tour of the Mundos de Mestizaje fresco created by artist Frederico Vigil. Tours of the fresco are offered Thursdays and Fridays at 11am. Located in the Torreón on the NHCC Campus, Mundos de Mestizaje depicts thousands of years of Hispanic culture, history, and identity. Admission for the tour is $2 and tickets are available for advance purchase below. Tickets can also be purchased in the New Mexico Mutual Welcome Center, depending on availability. Colcha Community Stitch A-long

9:30 am (MST) on the 4th Tuesday of each month Our Colcha community Workshop is open to all levels of experience in an informal setting. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught this art form to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist, most recently recognized in 2019 at Santa Fe Spanish Market. Guerrilla Opera: A Discussion with Composer/Director Nathan Felix

6:00pm A discussion with composer/director Nathan Felix about his guerilla approach to opera and staging unconventional classical music performances in non-traditional spaces and how it relates to his collaboration with NHCC. Gale Memorial Lecture Series 2023-2024: Justin Favela

6:00 pm In collaboration with the University of New Mexico College of Fine Arts, the Center will host Nevada-based artist Justin Favela as he presents his lecture “Give It a Rest: A Latinx Artist in Repose.” The lecture is based on Favela's recently completed durational performance Reposo: A Hispanic Artist Rests For The Entirety Of Hispanic Heritage Month. Prophets, Pyramids & Paños

1:00pm - 4:00pm Explore music and performance art in various areas of the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) on Saturday, October 28th. The brainchild of composer Nathan Felix, this exploratory, immersive production titled, Prophets, Pyramids & Paños, showcases an array of local talent that will come together to create a surrealistic musical world at the NHCC where attendees can walk through various locations on the NHCC campus including the pyramid and Torreón to see these different site-specific presentations.
