SUMMARY:Southwest of Eden:  The Art of Adam and Eve
DESCRIPTION:This exciting exhibit features approximately fifty works of art from the Joyce Kaser Collection. Southwest of Eden: The Art of Adam and Eve examines the various ways in which New Mexican artists and others visually portray these two famous figures as well as the flora and fauna in their surroundings.  For example\, how many apples are featured\, or are they pomegranates? Is the serpent male or female? Is it animal or human\, or half and half? Is Eve always the instigator or is Adam assuming some responsibility? Situated in the NHCC Art Museum’s highly popular community gallery\, Southwest of Eden invites the visitor to take a closer look at the imagery\, symbolism and story of what happened in the garden.

DESCRIPTION:6 pm \nDomingos en Arte\, the summer music and dance series presented by MelazaMusic and the National Hispanic Cultural Center\, enters its fourth season\, with concerts scheduled through August. We have invited a wide range of Latin artists for family-friendly summer Sundays that feature live music\, drinks\, and delicious Latin cuisine in the NHCC’s enchanting Fountain Courtyard. \nLa Diabla\, from Tijuana\, BC\, Mexico\, performing on July 7\, has been “cumbiando” since before it was cool. The band’s name comes from an old Celso Piña tune\, and their music can be powerful and aggressive\, romantic and cheerful\, even dark and macabre. La Diabla has been described as La Sonora Dinamita meets Daft Punk\, or Andrés Landero meets N.W.A.—but with masks\, and with something for everyone to dance to! \n$15 Adults w/ a $2 discount for NHCC members. Castañeda has forged a unique musical path\, bringing a wholly original voice to jazz and other genres\, and taking the world by storm with his virtuosity and command of his instrument. A consummate collaborator\, he has formed partnerships with Gonzalo Rubalcaba\, Wynton Marsalis\, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra\, among others\, and has performed at venues including the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts\, the Tanglewood Jazz Festival\, and the 10th Annual World Harp Congress. “If you aren’t watching Castañeda in action\, you might think you’re listening to an ensemble rather than a solo player….
