DESCRIPTION:This exciting exhibit features approximately fifty works of art from the Joyce Kaser Collection. Southwest of Eden: The Art of Adam and Eve examines the various ways in which New Mexican artists and others visually portray these two famous figures as well as the flora and fauna in their surroundings.  For example\, how many apples are featured\, or are they pomegranates? Is the serpent male or female? Is it animal or human\, or half and half? Is Eve always the instigator or is Adam assuming some responsibility? Situated in the NHCC Art Museum’s highly popular community gallery\, Southwest of Eden invites the visitor to take a closer look at the imagery\, symbolism and story of what happened in the garden.

DESCRIPTION:10:30 am to 12 pm \nA great morning of art-making for children of all ages and families of all sizes. A visit to the museum is included in this artist-led workshop. We will meet in the Creative Classroom in the Pete V. Domenici Building. \nPlease pre-register HERE (so we know how many materials to prepare) \nThis month\, work with guest artist Sean Wells who will discuss working in the contemporary style inspired by traditional Spanish Colonial Art forms. She will lead us in a painting workshop using acrylic paints on canvas. Paintings created during this month’s HAH or Vamos will be voluntarily included in an exhibition in the education building. \n \nAbout Sean Wells: \nSean’s artwork has been featured on internationally distributed beer labels (Cerveza de los Muertos)\, nationally distributed wine labels (La Catrina Vino) and New Mexico Lottery Scratchers for which she received a national award for top scratcher design. She is an award-winning 5th generation Spanish Colonial artist and juried member of the Spanish Colonial Arts Society in the retablo category\, promoting the traditional arts through her television show\, New Mexican Santera.  Sean received “Best Visual Artist 2016” and “Top 5 Artists” 2017 and 2018 from the readers of Albuquerque the Magazine. Juani de la Isla\, highly praised in Spain as a flamenco accompanist and soloist\, has recorded over 150 albums with artists worldwide. SUMMARY:Festival Ballet Albuquerque: Sacred Journeys II
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, at 7 pm\nSunday at 2 pm \nClassical and contemporary dance combine with the eclectic music of two-time Grammy award-winning Taos Pueblo musician Robert Mirabal in this reflection of New Mexican cultures through dance\, music\, and spoken word. Mirabal collaborates with internationally renowned New York City Ballet dancer Jock Soto\, of Navajo and Puerto Rican descent; Soto\, who is originally from Gallup\, NM\, and will also make guest appearances onstage\, now lives in Eagle Nest\, NM. Additional choreographers for the production are director Patricia Dickinson Wells\, native New Mexican Dominic Guerra\, and internationally known Vladimir Conde Reche\, a native of São Paulo\, Brazil. His 2002 breakthrough PBS special\, Music from a Painted Cave\, is unsurpassed in Native American theatrical expression. \nA former principal dancer with the New York Ballet\, Jock Soto was one of the last dancers to be personally selected by founder George Balanchine when he was barely 16. He danced featured roles in over 40 ballets\, of which more than 35 were created for him.
