SUMMARY:Southwest of Eden: The Art of Adam and Eve
DESCRIPTION:This exciting exhibit features approximately fifty works of art from the Joyce Kaser Collection. Southwest of Eden: The Art of Adam and Eve examines the various ways in which New Mexican artists and others visually portray these two famous figures as well as the flora and fauna in their surroundings.  For example\, how many apples are featured\, or are they pomegranates? Is the serpent male or female? Is it animal or human\, or half and half? Is Eve always the instigator or is Adam assuming some responsibility? Situated in the NHCC Art Museum’s highly popular community gallery\, Southwest of Eden invites the visitor to take a closer look at the imagery\, symbolism and story of what happened in the garden.

SUMMARY:NHCC Children's Bilingual Book Festival
DESCRIPTION:All events at the NHCC through April 30\, 2020 have been cancelled / postponed.\nPlease call the NHCC at 505-246-2261 for more information. \n9 am to 5 pm \nThe Children’s Bilingual Book Festival takes place at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) in April of each year and features K-6 books in Spanish and English and Native Languages in English. There are author readings\, a book fair\, student storytelling\, poetry performances\, workshops for teachers and parents\, and art and book-related activities for all ages\, including teens. Join us! \nVisit the festival website. \n \nOn Friday\, April 24 (school visits) and Saturday\, April 25\, 2020\, the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) in Albuquerque\, New Mexico\, hosts its second annual Children’s Bilingual Book Festival\, the only one of its kind in the U.S. that features children’s books in Spanish and English and Native languages and English.  \nThe focus on Spanish-English and Native Language-English books and authors makes this festival particularly meaningful and vibrant\, reflecting the identities of many children in New Mexico and the Southwest. We want to encourage children to see themselves in contemporary children’s literature as well as introduce a bilingual body of work to a wider audience. \nThe festival features author readings\, student storytelling\, a book fair\, workshops for parents and teachers\, and creative and book-related activities for young readers (K-6) and their families. \nThe festival is a partnership between the NHCC and the following partners:  Indian Pueblo Cultural Center\, Bookworks\, Artful Life\, The Public Library (City of Albuquerque)\, Dual Language Education of New Mexico (DLENM)\, REFORMA\, and UNM Press. \nWe would like to thank our generous donors\, the City of Albuquerque\, the BNSF Railway Foundation\, and French Funerals and Cremations\, for making the 2019 festival possible. \nFor more information\, please contact Valerie Martínez\, Director of History and Literary Arts\, National Hispanic Cultural Center: valerie.martinez@state.nm.us; 505-383-4724. \nCHECK OUT THE VIDEO FROM THE 2019 FESTIVAL HERE! \nSEE THE FULL PROGRAM FOR THE 2019 FESTIVAL HERE \n  \n  \n
