Mira, Mira On the Wall: Reflecting on 20 Years of Exhibitions – Virtual Edition

The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) turns twenty years old in 2020 and the museum now has twenty years of exhibitions to reflect on and learn from. Roadrunner Food Bank Distribution Location

11 am The NHCC will be a special drive-thru distribution location for the Roadrunner Food Bank on Wednesday, December 23rd starting 11am. The Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico supplies food to hundreds of organizations throughout New Mexico and it is an honor to be a distribution partner during this difficult holiday season. Celebrating Traditions

Christmas Day is usually filled with get togethers with family and friends and if you are in New Mexico attending dances at one of the Pueblos. Holiday celebrations represent rich cultural and artistic traditions. We thought we would bring a little bit of the museum to you, the objects represented are integral to holiday festivities. Art Making: Día de los Reyes Crown 

Celebrate Día de los Reyes (Three Kings' Day), with a crown! Día de los Reyes, also known as the Epiphany is celebrated on January 6th across Latin America, in Spain, and by Latinx communities around the world. This feast day commemorates the visitation of the Santo Niño (Infant Jesus) by the three wise men and, for some, marks the end of the Christmas season. César Chávez Day Celebration

Times TBD Recuerda César Chávez Committee Facebook page HERE Since 2007, the National Hispanic Cultural Center has collaborated with Albuquerque’s Recuerda a César Chávez Committee (RCCC) to celebrate the life and legacy of the renowned American civil rights leader César Estrada Chávez, co-founder, with Dolores Huerta, of the National Farmworkers Association and subsequently president of the United Farmworkers of America. In previous years, the annual Marcha de Justicia  has departed from the NHCC to begin the day’s activities, returning to the Center for an afternoon community Fiesta. (more...)

On-Line Albuquerque Premiere: Conjunto Blues

7 pm (MST) The premiere performance will be on our Foundation YouTube page HERE This performance, the Albuquerque premiere of Valdez’ critically acclaimed work, is made possible through the generous sponsorship of AARP. In Conjunto Blues, playwright, actor, and musician Nicolás Valdez explores the social and historical conditions that led to the development of conjunto music as an expression of cultural resistance and liberation. Mundos de Mestizaje: Torreón Tour

11 am (MST) The National Hispanic Cultural Center is offering a guided tour of the Mundos de Mestizaje fresco by Frederico Vigil twice a week, Thursdays and Fridays at 11 am. Located in the Torreón on the NHCC Campus, Mundos de Mestizaje depicts thousands of years of Hispanic culture, history, and identity. Admission for the tour is $2 and tickets are available for advance purchase online here. Tickets can also be purchased in the New Mexico Mutual Welcome Center, depending on availability.
