Mundos de Mestizaje

12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. Revolutions International Theatre Festival: Migrant Songs

26th Annual César Chávez Day March & Fiesta

March—10:30 am Fiesta—12 noon-3:30 pm Civil rights and labor leader César Chávez was born on March 31, 1927 in Yuma, AZ. Every year since his untimely death in 1993, the Recuerda a César Chávez Committee has commemorated the birth of this humble civil rights leader by marching in his honor and celebrating his life with music, dancing, poetry and enjoyable, culturally enriched activities for children. ¡Vamos al Museo!

10:30 am to 12 pm A great morning of art-making for children of all ages and families of all sizes. A visit to the museum is included in this artist-led workshop. We will meet in the Creative Classroom in the Pete V. Domenici Building. This month, join Jocelyn Salas and Elena in a slight museum takeover. We were anticipating construction and a section of the museum does not have artwork. We will search for clues and use our imaginations to recreate the missing artwork. Art Making: Try this at home!

In April 2019, we made lemonade out of lemons in the Art Museum. Not real lemonade, because food and drink aren’t allowed in the Museum! We were expecting construction, and to keep the art safe, it had to be put in storage. We took the families participating in our Saturday program, Vamos al Museo into the Museum to look at blank walls. 2 pm & 7:30 pm Mainstage evening show begins at 7:30 pm, with a pre-show live mariachi concert beginning at 6:30 pm in the lobby and moving to the auditorium at 7 pm. Come early and enjoy a full night of music and dance! Traditions is a folkloric dance showcase featuring three New Mexico ensembles, including Ballet Folklórico Santa Fe, Albuquerque’s Grupo Folklórico Desoluna, and northern New Mexico’s Baile Ilusión, accompanied by Banda Neluayotl from Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico. Our morning begins with inspiration in the art museum, looking at design, materials and construction. Back in the education building we will create our own art piece to take home.
