Summer Institutes Performances: Voces and Manoa in Braceros: How We Remember

2 pm  Two of the NHCC Summer Institutes for Youth—Voces and the Manoa Project—present a very special performance with the Arizona-based Safos Dance Theater: “Braceros: How We Remember,” a performance of dance/movement with after-performance discussion. Join our teens for an exploration of the reality and legacy of The Braceros Program, based on the NHCC exhibit, “The Braceros Program: 1942-1964 – Photographed by the Hermanos Mayo.”  Located in the NHCC Memorial Park between the Pete V. Domingos en Arte: Nohe y Sus Santos

6 pm Domingos en Arte, the summer music and dance series presented by MelazaMusic and the National Hispanic Cultural Center, enters its fourth season, with concerts scheduled through August. We have invited a wide range of Latin artists for family-friendly summer Sundays that feature live music, drinks, and delicious Latin cuisine in the NHCC’s enchanting Fountain Courtyard. 8 pm The NHCC’s Summer Institutes—Circo Latino, the Manoa Project, and Voces—join the Manoa Project Teen Ensemble for a stirring performance of a fully produced original show written and created by a group of theatre students who have trained and worked together over four weeks. $10 w/ $2 discount for students, seniors and NHCC members

Thursday at 5 pm Friday at 10 am The NHCC’s Summer Institutes—Circo Latino, the Manoa Project, and Voces— come see young artists, ages 8-13, present an original show featuring trapeze, juggling, stilting, acrobatics, clowning, live music, and more. Free event with a suggested donation of $5 Deep gratitude to our sponsors who make the program possible: The McCune Foundation, Nusenda, City of Albuquerque Urban Enhancement Fund, Department of Cultural Affairs, Vintage Albuquerque, and the U.S. Forest Service.

No experience is necessary to participate in this class. 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm—Advanced Class In order to participate in this class, dancers must come to at least one 6 pm class and be familiar with the vocabulary and movement introduced in these classes. 11:30 am to 2:30 pm Salud y Sabor is a free late morning/early afternoon of food, art, health, culture, and entertainment that celebrates our communities and connects families with nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and play. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, fun art and movement activities for kids and adults, health screenings, cultural exchange, and live entertainment.  Join us for free samples of local produce and special recipes.
