La Canoa: Nuevomexicano Children’s Literature: Bilingual and Bicultural in Both Past and Present
History and Literary Arts Building2 pm to 4 pm Join panelists Amy Córdova, artist and illustrator; and Enrique L. Lamadrid, Gabriel Meléndez, Anna M. Nogar, and Michael Trujillo, from the University of New Mexico for a discussion on Nuevomexicano children’s literature. Recent studies of popular cultural production often center on forms intended for adults. This roundtable will consider a genre designed for children that involves adult interlocutors and mentors. During the March event, families (limited to 25 participants) will get a 30-minute museum tour focused on the NHCC Art Museum’s current exhibit Fantasía Fantástica: Imaginative Spaces and Other-Worldly Collage led by artist Rachel Muldez, whose work you will see in the exhibit. ¡Salud y Sabor!: Colombia
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC, is a free evening of food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment. Festival Ballet Albuquerque Presents Dance Visions: Festival of New Ballets (Rental)

Chavez, a dance icon in Albuquerque during the 1980s and early ‘90s who is known for such masterpiece ballets as Sleepy Hollow, Carmina Burana, and The Jungle Book, has created his most epic ballet in over 20 years. 24th Annual César Chávez Day
March—11 am Fiesta—12 pm Join the 24th annual César Chávez Day celebration, with a march—La Marcha de Justicia—beginning at 10:30 am at the Dolores Huerta Gateway Park, picking up additional participants at the National Hispanic Cultural Center at 11:00 am, and ending at noon on the NHCC’s Plaza Mayor. Following the march, the family fiesta at the Center includes poetry, dancing, community exhibits, children’s activities and games, food, a keynote speech by Dolores Huerta, and live music.
