Cervantes & Don Quixote Exhibition Opening
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM2 pm to 5 pm Instituto Cervantes presents an exhibition in four parts, paying homage to Miguel de Cervantes, the famous author of Don Quixote de la Mancha, and commemorating the 400th anniversary of his death. The first part, “Quijotes del celuloide,” displays posters from various movies made about Don Quixote over the years. Panquetzaliztli: An Aztec Celebration of the Season

Disney Center for Performing Arts: Albuquerque Journal Theatre 1701 4th St SW, Albuquerque, NM7:30 pm—Saturday 2 pm—Sunday Kalpulli Ehecatl/Ehecatl Aztec Dancers and Friends present Panquetzaliztli, a theatrical performance in three acts. The presentation, an Aztec celebration of the season, draws upon Mesoamerican creation myths and the history behind traditional holiday customs and includes a lyrically performed version of the Panquetzaliztli (Alzamiento de los Estandartes, or Raising of the Banners) celebration, a retelling of the history of Yankwik Tletl (Fuego Nuevo, or the New Fire Ritual, performed during Panquetzaliztli every 52 years), and, as a closing act, the Serpent of Fire Dance. Festival Ballet Albuquerque Presents The Nutcracker Ballet in the Land of Enchantment

La Canoa: Taste, Place and Memory: Toward A Poetics of Chile Eating
History and Literary Arts Building2 pm to 4 pm Join Dr. Victor Valle, an Emeritus professor of Ethnic Studies at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, in exploring the life-world of his childhood chile memories to understand a particular family’s idea of chile eating and what it tells us about where and who they were. Dr. Valle's lecture reveals a critical framework for interpreting the poetics of “taste, place, and memory” and takes its title from the first chapter of his forthcoming book, The Poetics of Fire: Metaphors of Chile-Eating (more...)

Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC, is a free evening of food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment.
