Jesús Muñoz Flamenco, Live!

8 pm, both evenings Jesús Muñoz Flamenco presents the company’s new production, Live!, showcasing the artistry of 12 internationally renowned dancers and musicians from Spain to Latin America. Participating performers have composed for platinum flamenco albums, prestigious dance companies, and popular artists such as José Merce, El Barrio, Marc Anthony, and Andrea Bocelli. Jesús Muñoz Flamenco takes a year-long hiatus from themed productions to dive into an exploration of ideas and the explosive dynamic of flamenco collaboration. Introduction to Flamenco Dance, taught by Bridgit Luján

7:15 pm to 8:15 pm Students will learn basic flamenco technique and a short choreography.  No experience required; men and women of all ages and ability are welcome! $10 suggested donation Bridgit (Brigida) Luján began studying dance at the age of two, and earned a Master’s degree in dance from the University of New Mexico. After performing under the direction of Eva Encinias, Lili del Castillo, Pablo Rodarte, and Antonio Hidalgo, she joined Maria Benitez’ Estampa Española in 2000. Flamenco en la Voz de Cervantes: Miguel de Cervantes Celebration with Fernando Barros Lirola and Company

Pre-show reading—6 pm Performance—7 pm Commemorate the 400th anniversary of Miguel de Cervantes’ death with a special flamenco recital, performed by singer and composer Fernando Barros Lirola and his company. The performance will combine music and dance in an exploration of Cervantes’ major work, Don Quixote, and a tribute to the flamenco tradition, one of the most revered in Spanish culture. Festival Flamenco Internacional: Exposición Flamenca & New Mexico True Fiesta de Apertura

8 pm Festival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque presents Compañía Manuel Liñán in Nómada. Featuring three bailaoras, three bailaores, three singers, and two guitarists, the work is a “collective journey” framing the art of flamenco in different geographic regions and different textures. It develops Liñan’s work as a choreographer, director, and dancer—exploring the different worlds that sustain him on his diverse paths.
