DESCRIPTION:5:30 pm to 7:30 pm \nOn the first Thursday of the month\, NHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting\, which includes snacks\, refreshments\, and beer & wine for sale from Pop Fizz. DESCRIPTION:5:30 pm to 7:30 pm \nSalud y Sabor\, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network\, Street Food Institute\, and the NHCC\, is a free evening of food\, art\, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition\, cooking\, healthy lifestyles\, and culture. \nOnce a month\, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh\, locally grown ingredients\, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults\, health screenings\, and live entertainment. An emphasis is placed on exploring traditional Hispanic dishes\, providing basic information/free screenings from local Western and alternative health practitioners\, and creating a vibrant atmosphere with art activities and live music. SUMMARY:Opening Reception for La Ultima Exhibición
DESCRIPTION:5:30 to 7:30 pm | NHCC Art Museum \nLa Ultima Exhibición\, curated by Augustine Romero\, features visual interpretations of Rudolfo Anaya’s celebrated book\, Bless Me\, Ultima (1972)-a portrait of life in rural New Mexico as seen through the eyes of a young boy during World War II. Anaya tells of the spiritual healer\, Ultima\, as she guides young Antonio on a magical and moral journey in this novel that has inspired artists for decades. Romero curated a previous iteration of this exhibition in 2006 at the South Broadway Cultural Center and the NHCC Art Museum is thrilled to host the re-imagined version twelve years later. \nFeatured artists include: Jesús ” Cimi” Alvarado\, George C’de Baca\, Sylvia Ortiz Domney\, Christian Michael Gallegos\, Roberto Gallegos\, Eric Garcia\, Kristina Gonzales\, Nacho Jaramillo\, Al Na’ir Lara\, Chisim Bernal Lujan\, Oscar Lozoya\, Chris Ray Melendez\, El Moisés\, Derrick Montez\, Paloma Paz Nava\, Gabriel Luis Powers\, Chris Rivera\, Rebecca H.
