Día de los Muertos: Despedida

Join the NHCC and experienced, knowledgeable local artists to learn about the meaning of this celebration, the traditional arts and crafts associated with the celebration and development of ofrendas that honor families and individuals. Opening Reception, The Art of Christmas: New Mexico Style
September-2019-Board-Meeting-Minutes5 pm to 7 pm Join us for the opening reception for the exhibition The Art of Christmas: New Mexico Style, featuring approximately 430 handmade ornaments by more than 125 New Mexican artists that have been collected by the Duran family (Matt, Jeanette, and their son Gabriel) over nearly 20 years. Matt and Jeanette began collecting Christmas ornaments in 2000 and there first tree was only 4 feet tall. Awards Ceremony: Second Cervantes Drawing and Painting Contest for New Mexico Students
NHCC-Newsletter-November-2-302 pm Instituto Cervantes, the National Hispanic Cultural Center, and the Spanish Resource Center present the awards for a student drawing and painting contest to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the creation of Pablo Picasso’s Guernica and to celebrate the exhibition El Prado in Santa Fe—the U.S. debut of 92 full-scale reproductions of some of the greatest masterpieces from Madrid’s Museo del Prado. Opening Reception for La Ultima Exhibición
September-2019-Board-Meeting-Minutes5:30 to 7:30 pm | NHCC Art Museum La Ultima Exhibición, curated by Augustine Romero, features visual interpretations of Rudolfo Anaya's celebrated book, Bless Me, Ultima (1972)-a portrait of life in rural New Mexico as seen through the eyes of a young boy during World War II. Anaya tells of the spiritual healer, Ultima, as she guides young Antonio on a magical and moral journey in this novel that has inspired artists for decades.
