Siempre Creativo: Mixed Media Mandalas with Artist Catalina Salinas
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM1:30 - 3:30 pm Become mesmerized by the beauty of mandalas and create your own mandala designs using watercolors, watercolor paper, colored pencils, and Sakura Gelly Pens with techniques you can also use at home. This is the first of two sessions with artist Catalina Salinas, feel free to attend one or both sessions. These workshops are part of the NHCC’s Siempre Creativo program, which provides free multidisciplinary arts programs for seniors throughout the summer. Mexican Independence Day Celebration in partnership with the Mexican Consul
Patio | Fountain Courtyard 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM, United States5:30 – 7:30 pm In collaboration with the Consulate of Mexico, the National Hispanic Cultural Center is proud to host a celebration of Mexican Independence Day featuring vendors, dancing, and much more! On Sept. 12, the Center will be joined by the Consulate of Mexico providing a formal flag unveiling and the traditional Grito, a celebration announcement of independence. Early Childhood Bilingual Storytime

Noche de Familia: Bless Me, Ultima
Cayetana Romero Lobby5:00 – 7:00 pm (Film screening held immediately following) Join us for a Noche de Familia inspired by Rudolfo Anaya's beloved novel Bless Me, Ultima! Craft a flapping owl hand puppet, design a drawing inspired by the novel, and use herbs or leaves to emboss clay creations. Free books and coloring books will be available. Latina Equal Pay Day

This day, which recognizes the gender and racial pay gaps that still affect Hispanic women in the workforce, will feature a Women’s Art Market, interviews with Latina leaders, bookmaking, scavenger hunts, and more at the Center. Siempre Creativo: New Mexico Folk Dance for Seniors
Salón Ortega 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM1:30 - 3:30 pm New Mexico Folk Dance for Seniors will feature 4 weeks of traditional Folk dance lessons, including the traditional La Marcha dance, taught by instructor Lucy Salazar. Classes run for four consecutive Wednesdays from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. On the day of the final class, we will dance to live music for a fun-filled dance fiesta!
