7:00 pm This Spanish/w English subtitles documentary explores Spain’s slave owning & slave trafficking past that links its ports to one in Vera Cruz.  It also depicts the influence of that shared slave past on Spanish and Mexican culture, particularly on Flamenco and Son Jarocho. Panelists Carolina “Caro” Acuña-Olvera, Rosalinda Rojas, and Yvonne B. Hamilton Gutierrez are members of the Black Flamenco Network, also known as FUAAD—Flamencos Unidos Africanos y Afro Descendientes. She is the author of four poetry collections, furia, Blood Sugar Canto, CUICACALLI/House of Song, and FirstPoems, two chapbooks, Enduring Azucares and Hibiscus Tacos, and a short story collection, flesh to bone, which won the Premio Aztlán.
