First come\, first served) \nVoces is a FREE\, month-long writing institute for high school writers. Teens (rising 9th graders through graduating seniors) are inspired to write prose\, poetry and monologues through a wide range of experiential activities. The program culminates with chapbooks and a public reading/performance. This free institute is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for teens to experience the equivalent of a writing intensive\, with guest writers and artists and a wide range of field trips that inspire writing\, at no cost. \nFree community event

DESCRIPTION:11 am (MST) \nThe National Hispanic Cultural Center is offering a guided tour of the Mundos de Mestizaje fresco by Frederico Vigil twice a week\, Thursdays and Fridays at 11 am. Located in the Torreón on the NHCC Campus\, Mundos de Mestizaje depicts thousands of years of Hispanic culture\, history\, and identity. \nAdmission for the tour is $2 and tickets are available for advance purchase online here. Tickets can also be purchased in the New Mexico Mutual Welcome Center\, depending on availability. Capacity for each tour is limited. \n \nA Vision of History through Fresco… \nMundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The 4\,000 square foot painting is one of the largest frescos in North America. \nThe digitized imagery of the painting ensures that this culturally significant work can be a sharing and learning experience for students and families anywhere. SUMMARY:Money for Writers Workshop: Grant Writing for Latinx Writers
DESCRIPTION:11 am (MST) \nLive via Zoom. Register HERE \n“Beyond Teaching: Out-of-the-Box Writing Gigs and Getting Them Funded” \nThis workshop features three Latinx writers who generate income outside of teaching. They collaborate with other writers and artists\, work in journalism\, provide professional writing services\, and create innovative projects that support their careers as writers. These gigs are financially supported by foundations\, municipal agencies\, and other funders. Join us to learn more. There will be time for Q & A at the end of this session. This workshop is a response to the requests for workshops expressed by Latinx writers at the National Latinx Writers Gathering in October of 2020. Presenters: Néstor David Pastor\, Valerie Martínez\, and Raul A. Reyes. \nWorkshop fee: $20. \n \nPresenters:\nNéstor David Pastor is a writer\, editor\, and translator from Queens\, NY. His past experience includes Radio Ambulante\, Feet in 2 Worlds\, and the Center for Puerto Rican Studies\, in addition to community-based work with the Afro-Latino Festival of NYC\, Newtown Literary\, and the Loisaida Festival. Currently\, he works as an editorial assistant at the North American Congress on Latin America and managing editor of Intervenxions\, a digital publication of the Latinx Project at New York University. He is also the founding editor of Huellas\, a bilingual magazine of crónicas narrativas. He holds degrees in Spanish and English from Binghamton University\, as well as an MA in Spanish from Queens College. \nRaul A. Reyes is a journalist and television commentator in New York City. He has written for the New York Times\, Los Angeles Times\, USA Today\, Christian Science Monitor\, Texas Monthly\, and NBC Latino. He has appeared on CNN\, MSNBC\, Fox News\, PBS\, NBC Nightly News and the Today Show. Graduate of Harvard University and Columbia Law School.\nRaul A. Since 2008\, Valerie has been working collaboratively with artists in different disciplines on a range of writing\, performance\, and community arts projects.  She is Founding Director of Artful Life which is dedicated to transforming communities through the beauty and power of collaborative art.  She is also the Founding Director of EKCO (EKphrasis + COllaboration) a poetry performance ensemble which addresses issues of art and urgency to women. Valerie is the Director of History and Literary Arts at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.

Register HERE \nThe Inquisition is one of the most famous and infamous of religious courts in history.The reviled institution even had a presence in New Mexico during the colonial period. State Historian Rob Martinez presents a fascinating look at the history of the Inquisition in Europe\, Spain and the Americas\, with a focus on Mexico and New Mexico. Cases of heretical behavior reveal much about the social and religious practices and activities of people in the 1600s\, 1700s\, and 1800s. \nFree community Event \n \nState Historian Rob Martínez is a native New Mexican from Albuquerque. A graduate of the University of New Mexico with an M.A. in Latin American history\, with an emphasis on New Mexico history. Rob was a research assistant at theVargas Project\, learning research skills and paleography\, abilities that would serve him well as a historian. Before becoming state historian in 2019\, he was deputy state historian for six years at the New Mexico State Records Center and Archives. \nTertulia Histórica Albuquerque is presented by the National Hispanic Cultural Center in collaboration with the Office of the New Mexico State Historian.
