SUMMARY:Lecture: Indigenous Influences on Spanish Language- Guarani and Nahuatl
DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm \nDr. Josefina Bittar\, a professor at the Languages and Applied Linguistics Department at UC Santa Cruz\, and Dr. Carson Morris\, NHCC History and Literary Arts Program Manager\, present lectures on the influences of Guarani and Nahuatl on the Spanish language. \nPlease join us for a pre-talk reception beginning at 6:00 pm. \nFree Community Event\, register here or call the NHCC Welcome Center at 505-724-4771 for assistance. \n \n \nDr. Bittar received her PhD in Linguistics at the University of New Mexico. After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature from the Universidad Nacional de Asunción\, she was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to obtain a Masters degree in Linguistics\, also at UNM. Being born and raised in a highly bilingual country such as Paraguay sparked Josefina’s interest in bilingualism and language contact phenomena. Josefina’s current research focuses on the morphosyntactic influences between Spanish and Guaraní\, in particular those involving argument structure.
