  • Colcha Community Stitch A-Long

    9:30 am in-person 10:30 am Zoom Our Colcha Community Stich-A-Long is open to all levels of experience in an informal setting. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught colcha, a Spanish Colonial embroidery style, to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist, most recently recognized in 2019 at Traditional Spanish Market in Santa Fe. Annette will demonstrate as well as answer questions.   • Exhibit Reception: Rendered Presence: Artistas de Nuevo México

    5:00 - 7:00 pm Join us for a free public reception celebrating the opening of Rendered Presence: Artistas de Nuevo México. Guest curated by Vicente Telles, the exhibition explores artworks by artists living and working throughout New Mexico. Many of the artworks are figurative and created on a scale that challenges limited understandings of New Mexican art. In their own way, each artist explores identity and the self, art history, and the expanse of Hispanic, Chicana/o/x, and Latina/o/x contemporary art.   • Re-Scheduled: Siempre Creativo: Intro to Retablos with Artist Sean Wells y Delgado

    1:30 – 3:30 pm Discover the history and symbolism of retablo painting and create your own unique interpretation, using watercolors on wood prepared with traditional gesso. This is the second of two sessions with artist Sean Wells y Delgado, and participants are welcomed to attend one or both sessions. These workshops are part of the NHCC’s Siempre Creativo program, which provides free multidisciplinary arts programs for seniors throughout the summer.   • Re-Scheduled: Printmaking for Seniors! Gelli Plate/Monotype with Artist Carol C. Sánchez

    1:30 - 3:30 pm NHCC | Pete Domenici Education Building: Grand Hall Gelli Plate/Monotype is considered the painter’s print. A basic printmaking process in which an image is created by rolling or painting with inks directly onto a plate and printed onto paper. Usually only one impression is pulled. In this workshop, we will explore various ways of applying inks and paints to create unique images.
