Guerrilla Opera: A Discussion with Composer/Director Nathan Felix

6:00pm A discussion with composer/director Nathan Felix about his guerilla approach to opera and staging unconventional classical music performances in non-traditional spaces and how it relates to his collaboration with NHCC. Felix will also give a retrospective insight into his process and inspiration behind his imaginative works such as '6 Pianos in Surround Sound', 'Opera on a Bus' and 'Immersive Operas'. Prophets, Pyramids & Paños

1:00pm - 4:00pm Explore music and performance art in various areas of the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) on Saturday, October 28th. The brainchild of composer Nathan Felix, this exploratory, immersive production titled, Prophets, Pyramids & Paños, showcases an array of local talent that will come together to create a surrealistic musical world at the NHCC where attendees can walk through various locations on the NHCC campus including the pyramid and Torreón to see these different site-specific presentations. Colcha Community Stitch A-Long

9:30 am (MST) on the 4th Tuesday of each month Our Colcha community Workshop is open to all levels of experience in an informal setting. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught this art form to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist, most recently recognized in 2019 at Santa Fe Spanish Market. Art Museum Reception: Paño Connections – Corazon Knows No Bounds

5:00pm - 7:00pm Join us for a free public reception to celebrate the opening of Paño Connections - Corazon Knows No Bounds. The Art Museum at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is honored to host the exhibition Paño Connections organized by artist and guest curator Eric "Christo" Martinez.  On display in the Community Gallery, which is dedicated to showcasing art by New Mexican artists, this exhibit explores artworks inspired by paños (drawings on handkerchiefs) and other artworks created by incarcerated artists.
