DESCRIPTION:5 pm to 7 pm \nDía de Muertos is an annual traditional holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and many Hispanic communities. Join the NHCC and experienced\, knowledgeable local artists to learn about the meaning of this celebration\, the traditional arts and crafts associated with the celebration and development of ofrendas that honor families and individuals. \nThe National Hispanic Cultural Center will hold its annual Despedida to celebrate  Día de los Muertos with music\, poetry and hands-on art making at this time-honored community gathering. This is a great event for all ages. She received classical conservatory training in music\, and made her professional debut performing before thousands with experimental theatre troupe De La Guarda. Her diverse repertoire includes tropical rhythms\, Argentine folk\, reggae\, dancehall\, soul\, and Arabic music. DESCRIPTION:8 pm both days \nYjastros 31 is a flamenco epic full of world premiere choreographic masterpieces. Mystical and imaginative\, the show explores innovation within the art form of flamenco. Artistic Director Joaquin Encinias presents new dances and music by Spanish master artists Estevez\, Paños\, Alvarez\, and Ruiz\, along with performances by guest artist Ivan Vargas\, all of whom intertwine the roots of flamenco with modern interpretations to create a visually exquisite tapestry. \nRafael Estevez\, the new Artistic Director of Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía\, produced “Çiertas Danças” with partner Valeriano Paños\, transporting audiences into a dream sequence in three parts. \nLucia Alvarez\, “La Piñona\,” created “La Serrana” in partnership with cantaora Eva Ruiz and guitarist Calvin Hazen. The original choreography and musical score reflect the difficult life of the farmers from La Piñona’s hometown of Jimena de la Frontera\, Spain. \nGuest artist Ivan Vargas performs in a virtuosic quintet featuring the men of Yjastros\, and then rounds out the full stage show of all-star dance\, music\, and vocals with a solo work. \nYjastros 31 marries the traditions of flamenco with contemporary innovation\, moving the dance forward while\, in the same breath\, paying homage to the past. \nYjastros—Forever Creating\, Never the Same.\n$20\, $30\, $40\, $50 w/ $5 off for Seniors and NHCC Members

SUMMARY:Chispa:  Pimentel Concert Series\, Ronstadt Generations y Los Tucsonenses
DESCRIPTION:7:30 pm \nRepresenting five generations in North America\, Ronstadt Generations continues the family’s musical traditions with Michael J. Ronstadt (younger brother of Linda) and his sons\, Michael G. and Petie D. Multi-instrumentalists and solo performers in their own right\, they present an exciting repertoire that preserves the traditional Southwestern and Mexican songs of their heritage while offering innovative original material. In 2012 three veteran musicians—Alex Flores\, Sam Eagon\, and Aaron Emery—came on board to form the six-piece ensemble Ronstadt Generations y Los Tucsonenses (the Tucsonians). Playing tenor saxophone\, bass\, and drums\, respectively\, Alex\, Sam\, and Aaron add a colorful dimension to an already powerful presentation that respects tradition while exploring innovation. The ensemble’s albums include Prelude (2012) and Epilogue (2014). Presented in partnership with Pimentel Music\, this is the eighth concert in the Pimentel Music Series. It will be followed by an after-party at Hotel Albuquerque.\n$35

SUMMARY:Chispa:  Antonio Reyna\, Mis Primeros 20 Años
DESCRIPTION:2 pm \nAward-winning performer Antonio Reyna is celebrating his 20th anniversary as an entertainer with an afternoon of music and dance for the whole family. Reyna is a New Mexican treasure who is beloved throughout the Southwest and Mexico\, and whose performances have influenced the trajectory of traditional mariachi music. He is joined on stage by his friends Mariachi Raíces de América from El Paso\, TX\, Trio América de Albuquerque\, and Baile Ilusión from Pojoaque\, NM. The concert also features a very special guest appearance by María Elena Leal Beltrán\, daughter of the late Lola Beltrán\, as a tribute to her mother\, Lola La Grande\, for whom Reyna also gave tribute performances at Mexico’s Festival Cultural de Lola Beltrán in 2015 and 2016. \nBorn in Gallup\, NM\, Reyna began his career as a mariachi vocalist in 1996\, touring with Nelson Martinez before going solo in 2002. In the course of his career\, he has received numerous awards from the New Mexico Hispano Music Association and the New Mexico Hispano Entertainers Association\, including Male Vocalist of the Year\, Mariachi of the Year\, Ranchera Song of the Year\, and Original Song of the Year. He has released three mariachi albums and one with a trio\, recorded as a tribute to his father\, and is currently completing a new album with songs written by the late singer-songwriter José Alfredo Jiménez. \nThe anniversary concert is presented in partnership with JA’z Enterprises\, and sponsored by El Patron Restaurant and Cantina\, Medical and Commercial Communications (MACC)\, Critical Nurse Staffing (CNS)\, Maddox & Co. DESCRIPTION:7:30 pm \nA graduate of the Manhattan School of Music\, pianist Santiago Piñeirúa is one of the young stars of the Latin American music scene. The winner of numerous piano competitions in his native Mexico\, he has worked with renowned orchestras and conductors at major festivals in countries including Mexico\, the U.S.\, Spain\, France\, England\, Italy\, Chile\, Uruguay\, and Argentina. Maestro Piñeirúa comes to Albuquerque for the first time to offer a program combining the classicism of a sonata by W.A. Mozart with the monumental proportions of F. Chopin’s 24 Preludes and the more contemporary sound world of Samuel Zymman\, a Mexican composer who teaches at New York’s Juilliard School of Music.
