Since forming in 1995\,the Los Angeles-bred lineup has inspired and energized listeners as far away as Burma and Mongolia: Ozo’s messages and music\, sung in both Spanish and English\, need no translation. \nIn 2022\, Ozo’s new songs\, stronger-than-ever brotherhood and creativity culminated in Marching On. Produced by David Garza (Fiona Apple\, Sparta) at El Paso’s Sonic Ranch\, the LP’s 11 songs are a unified blend of the members’ influences and ideas. Guests include J.J. Fad and Lisa Lisa on “Fellas\,” while “Mi Destino\,” sung in both English and Spanish\, features Cypress Hill’s B-Real and Guatemalan singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno\, who also lends her vocals to the title track “Marching On.” \nNOSOTROSNosotros is one of the most recognizable Latin bands\, in the Southwest United States. They have twice been featured on NPR’s Alt Latino\, twice been named winners in the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Competition\, been awarded 13 NM Music Awards and have shared the stage with some of the biggest names in music. This Latin music powerhouse\, seamlessly combines Latin rhythms with elements of Rock\, Salsa\, Jazz and Cumbia creating an original sound that is unmistakably Nosotros. But M.E. Schenck of Hyperactive Music Magazine may have interpreted their sound best by saying “Nosotros’ music is not to be explained\, it is to be felt in the pit of our souls.” \nBARACUTANGABaracutanga is a seven-piece band\, representing four different countries (Bolivia\, Ecuador\, Peru\, USA)\, that blends South American ancestral traditions with a modern sensibility\, whose exciting and distinct Latin flavor keeps crowds dancing and always wanting more. Baracutanga creates songs that cross linguistic and cultural barriers\, building bridges between the south and the north\, overcoming the barriers of discrimination and promoting intercultural experiences that empower Latinos and all people with a positive message of self-affirmation. \n

SUMMARY:Cervantes Film Series: Azaletik azalera
DESCRIPTION:12:00 pm MST (available for 48 hours)\nInstituto Cervantes Vimeo Channel Here \nCervantes Film Series: Zinegoak 20th anniversary. LGTBIQ+ Animation \nWith this award-winning short film\, Mel Arranz has managed to place himself within the interesting panorama of animation made in the Basque Country. His piece\, colored in various shades of black and white\, began to take shape during his artistic stay in Mexico and is a visual experiment: his short film manages to demonstrate a bodily intimacy through the detail shots of the touching of skins\, hardly representable in live-action cinema. \nFree Community Event \n \nThe Cervantes Institute maintains its program dedicated to LGTBIQ+ identities by collaborating with institutions and monographic festivals to make their film series more visible. This year\, the program dedicated to highlighting the celebration of LGTBIQ+ Pride Day comes from the Basque festival Zinegoak\, which celebrates its twenty years of existence with the presentation of an animated film series whose films address this theme on our Vimeo channel. Throughout four weeks\, we will see short films that showcase a wide range of identities and LGTBIQ+ collectives through the different techniques that animation provides\, and we will also have the opportunity to enjoy several short films by young creators from Basque Country. \nProgram\nJuly 4: Azaletik azalera (2021)\, by Mel Arranz\nJuly 7: La mesa\, (2018) by Adrian Garcia Gomez\nJuly 11: Beti Bezperako Koplak (2016)\, by varios cineastas\nJuly 14: Thara (2018)\, by Paco Ramírez y Tanya O’Carroll\nJuly 18: Dejarse crecer el cuerpo (2018)\, by Andrea Gudiño\nJuly 21: Ezohikoak (2022)\, by Alejandra Bueno\nJuly 25: Garelako (2015)\, by Usue Egia\nJuly 28: Makun (‘No llores’) (2015)\, by Emilio Martí

SUMMARY:New Mexico Shakespeare Festival: A Midsummer Night's Dream
DESCRIPTION:7:30 pm \nBringing Shakespeare to Life in New Mexico! The New Mexico Shakespeare Festival believes that Shakespeare is for everyone – whether you’ve seen dozens of plays or none at all. You are invited to join them on the National Hispanic Cultural Center’s Plaza Mayor and enjoy a wonderful performance! \nA Midsummer Night’s Dream |  Directed by Julia Thudium \nFree community event. Tickets will be available at the event one hour prior to the performance. \n \nDirector’s Note: If Samhain or Halloween is the night\, where the veils between the living and the dead are thin\, in many cultures\, Midsummer is the night that the Faeries come out and play\, the night when you dance around the bonfire in the forest\, only to realize you are not dancing alone and when you open your eyes the next morning\, you’re not sure if what you experienced was real or simply a vision. \nThis performance is set in the magical moment between waking and sleeping – the slow surfacing from the depths of your dreamscape – the liminal space on the threshold of beginning. In order to have a beginning you need to have a before-time. It’s here where we find our Midsummer. The Italians have a word for this before-time: Dormiveglia\, the space that stretches between sleeping and waking. Not many people know this\, but it is in this place that the Faeries rule. Everything is possible in the moments you dwell here; the sweet\, the sad\, the irreverent and the ridiculous. If you know me\, you know I prefer the ridiculous over just about anything. \nLast year when I took on As You Like It\, I coined it the “Party Show” of the Festival. This year is something a little different. This year we are THE HEART show. I invite you to let yourself sink here in this moment in the no-time. Let yourself be enchanted and pause in the mystic doorway with us. \n\nThe event is a rental event not an NHCC production. The title\, content\, photos/images and description for this event were provided to the NHCC by the organization renting the NHCC venue for the event. By serving as a venue and posting the event on its website\, the NHCC is not endorsing any views expressed in the title or description of the event\, nor is it endorsing the content of the event.

SUMMARY:Cervantes Film Series: La mesa
DESCRIPTION:12:00 pm MST (available for 48 hours)\nInstituto Cervantes Vimeo Channel Here \nCervantes Film Series: Zinegoak 20th anniversary. LGTBIQ+ Animation \nWith a captivating work drawing on a black and white photographic image\, director Adrian Garcia Gomez delves into memory to orient his imagination regarding identity and the past in the environment of the western and Mexican cinema of the 1940’s and 50’s. This short film follows its predecessor Mikveh (2016)\, and shares that film’s sensitive attunement regarding its formality and concerns\, which the Californian creator will continue in his subsequent work\, using a much more complex visual composition. \nFree Community Event \n \nThe Cervantes Institute maintains its program dedicated to LGTBIQ+ identities by collaborating with institutions and monographic festivals to make their film series more visible.
