Opening Reception: Moving Forward, Looking Back: Journeys Across the Old Spanish Trail

6 pm to 8 pm Join artist and curator Janire Nájera for the opening of her exhibition Moving Forward, Looking Back: Journeys Across the Old Spanish Trail, which explores Spanish heritage in the United States Southwest via the Old Spanish Trail, a route that linked the colonial outposts of New Mexico and California. ¡Cine Magnífico! Albuquerque Latino Film Festival: VIP Reception

6 pm to 7 pm ¡Cine Magnífico! celebrates Spanish and Latin American culture through presentation of some of the best of modern cinema in a weekend-long program, featuring work by first-time filmmakers and established masters alike. The subject matter runs the gamut from comedies, action, romances and documentary films, to dramatic masterpieces. Unveiling of Rudolfo Anaya Bust

6 pm Join the National Hispanic Cultural Center for an unveiling and dedication of Reynaldo “Sonny” Rivera’s sculptural bust of Rudolfo Anaya in the Center’s History and Literary Arts Library from 6 to 7 pm, in advance of the Center’s presentation of Mr. Anaya’s work The Season of La Llorona in the Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts at 7:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. The Mari-Luci Jaramillo Collection Opening Reception & Exhibition

6 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center's Research Library and Archives is pleased to announce that the Mari-Luci Jaramillo Collection consisting of papers, photographs, scrapbooks, and ephemera documenting the illustrious career of the Honorable Mari-Luci Jaramillo, former Ambassador to Honduras; Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Latin America; civil rights activist; and educator, will soon be available for research and study.  Join us for the opening reception and exhibition of items from the collection, on November 18th, 2016 at 6pm in the History and Literary Arts Building. (more...)

Cervantes & Don Quixote Exhibition Opening

Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM

2 pm to 5 pm Instituto Cervantes presents an exhibition in four parts, paying homage to Miguel de Cervantes, the famous author of Don Quixote de la Mancha, and commemorating the 400th anniversary of his death. The first part, “Quijotes del celuloide,” displays posters from various movies made about Don Quixote over the years. The second, “Don Quixote Quotes,” comprises universal quotes regarding the influence of Cervantes' work on English literature. “Back to Barataria,” the third part, is a journey around the southern states in the U.S.,  with (more...)

Hispanic Culture Day

10 am Hispanic Culture Day, co-hosted by Senator Peter Wirth and the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) Foundation, will begin with a joint session of the New Mexico State Senate and the New Mexico House of Representatives in the House Chambers.
