Breathe, Barelas, Breathe: A Staged Reading of a Trilogy of One-Act Plays
Orpheum Art Space7 pm Orpheum Arts Space 500 2nd St, SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102 This will be a staged reading of the entire trilogy (90 minutes). Arrive early to see a photo exhibit about Barelas. Followed by refreshments. This trilogy of one-act plays is written by Barelas resident playwrights Raúl Garza, Leonard Madrid and Mónica Sánchez, and inspired by the history, dreams and musings of one of Albuquerque's oldest neighborhoods. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, fun art and movement activities for kids and adults, health screenings, cultural exchange, and live entertainment. POSTPONED: Who We Are, Together: NM Families Project Presentation for Torres & Urioste
History and Literary Arts BuildingThis event has been postponed to a date TBD. Please check back here for further information. 2-4 pm This project engaged 2-3 generations of seven NM families in testing their DNA and researching their family lineage with the help of the NHCC and experts in the field. For seven Sundays these families will present what they learned about who they are, where they are, where they came from, and from whom they descend, followed by dialogue.
