NHCC Torreón 1701 4th street SW, Albuquerque, NM, United States12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. Summer Institute Performances: Circo Latino 2019

Disney Center for Performing Arts: Albuquerque Journal Theatre 1701 4th St SW, Albuquerque, NMThursday at 5 pm Friday at 10 am The NHCC’s Summer Institutes—Circo Latino, the Manoa Project, and Voces— come see young artists, ages 8-13, present an original show featuring trapeze, juggling, stilting, acrobatics, clowning, live music, and more. Free event with a suggested donation of $5 Deep gratitude to our sponsors who make the program possible: The McCune Foundation, Nusenda, City of Albuquerque Urban Enhancement Fund, Department of Cultural Affairs, Vintage Albuquerque, and the U.S. Forest Service.
Summer Institutes Performances: Voces 2019

Salud y Sabor Celebrates Peru: Tradicional
Domenici Education Building - Grand Hall11:30 am to 2:30 pm Salud y Sabor is a free late morning/early afternoon of food, art, health, culture, and entertainment that celebrates our communities and connects families with nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and play. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, fun art and movement activities for kids and adults, health screenings, cultural exchange, and live entertainment. History and Literary Arts Building6-7:30 pm Camina el Autor showcases the extraordinary work of Guaman Poma; explores the history of the indigenous people of Peru, Andean civilization, and Spanish conquest; and broadens our understanding of Peruvian culture and history.The digital images and accompanying texts have been provided to the NHCC by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with assistance from the Consulate General of Peru in Denver. The NHCC has curated these (398 fullpage drawings) to present a vibrant and informative exhibit that encourages learning, discovery, and contemplation. Exhibit programming will (more...)

Breathe, Barelas, Breathe: A Reading of Excerpts from a Trilogy of One-Act Plays
6 pm Sunday, July 28, 6 pm at B. Ruppe Drugstore parking lot 807 4th St SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102 Free food and drink followed by a reading of excerpts from the trilogy. This trilogy of one-act plays is written by Barelas resident playwrights Raúl Garza, Leonard Madrid and Mónica Sánchez, and inspired by the history, dreams and musings of one of Albuquerque's oldest neighborhoods. This trilogy has been developed with the support of Artful Life's El Puente/Barelas project and in partnership with the NHCC and Homewise. (more...)

This trilogy of one-act plays is written by Barelas resident playwrights Raúl Garza, Leonard Madrid and Mónica Sánchez, and inspired by the history, dreams and musings of one of Albuquerque's oldest neighborhoods.
