DESCRIPTION:8:00 pm \nIn their fifth performance at the NHCC\, “Cuba Linda\,” the New Mexico Jazz Latino Orchestra (NMJLO) honors the invaluable contributions of Cuban artists to the genres of Latin jazz and salsa. Their journey into the musical styles that have been introduced to the world by beloved Cuban legends begins with Latin jazz interpretations. \n$25\, $27 w/ $2 discount for NHCC Members \n \n\nThis event was postponed from January 22nd to July 9th. Ticket holders on January 22nd will automatically be transferred to the July 9th performance. If you can not attend the rescheduled performance on July 9th a refund can be issued. Please contact the box office at 505-724-4771 or email david.rivera1@state.nm.us to request a refund.\n\nThe concert continues with a long overdue dedication of honor to the “Queen of Salsa” Celia Cruz\, known for blending elements of Cuban rhythms such as rumba\, guaracha\, and son to create her unique signature sound. This tribute set will be led by vocalists Annette Bisconte Aragon and Jackie Zamora\, and followed by a performance by the evening’s guest of honor. This year\, the New Mexico Jazz Latino Orchestra is pleased to present “La Van Vanera” Yeni Valdes\, the famed former vocalist of Los Van Van\, who will be performing the hits that she made popular with Los Van Van and NG La Banda\, with backing by NMJLO. \nThe 13-piece ensemble showcases the versatility and talents of artists who are now New Mexico residents\, while bringing in international guest artists to introduce audiences to traditional instrumentation and rhythms from Latin America and demonstrate how jazz fusion can provide a harmonious and exciting blend of ancestral and contemporary tones.
