DESCRIPTION:6:00 pm \nNHCC | Domenici Education Building \nNHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting. This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out\, a unique date night option\, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. Drinks and snacks will be available to purchase. \nJoin us for a festive night of art on December 4\, where we will be learning how to do straw appliqué with renowned artist Martha Ewing. \nPlease pre-register here or use the link below (so we know how many materials to prepare). Registration for the following month is available the day after the current program month. For more information\, please call or email Elena Baca at 505-246-2261 or elenad.baca@dca.nm.gov. \nFree Community Event. $5+ donations are encouraged to support the artists & purchase supplies. \n \nAbout the Artist: Martha Varoz Ewing is a traditional Straw Applique and Tin Artist and is a native of Santa Fe\, New Mexico. She has found her passion in creating religious art in various forms and is inspired to create her work by the influence of her family’s artistic background and her strong religious upbringing. Her signature is a combination of straw and tin as she feels they complement one another. The two elements are known as Poor Man’s Silver and Poor Man’s Gold. She gathers her wheat from her brother’s fields in Colorado. \nHer art is found in numerous private collections and museums which include the Smithsonian American Art Museum\, Renwick Gallery\, Denver Art Museum\, Denver Museum of Nature & Science\, Museum of Spanish Colonial Arts\, EXPO NM Permanent Collection\, Colorado Fine Arts Taylor Museum\, Colorado Springs\, The Vatican in Rome and in the private collection of the Royal King and Queen of Spain.

SUMMARY:Saturday Special- Torreón Tour: Mundos de Mestizaje
DESCRIPTION:11:00 am \nIn addition to our regularly scheduled Thursday and Friday Torreón Tours\, the National Hispanic Cultural Center now has a newly added Saturday Tour on the second Saturday of every month. This is a guided tour of the Mundos de Mestizaje fresco created by artist Frederico Vigil\, located in the Torreón on the NHCC Campus\, depicting thousands of years of Hispanic culture\, history\, and identity. \nAdmission to the tour is $2 and tickets are available for advance purchase below. Tickets can also be purchased in the New Mexico Mutual Welcome Center\, depending on availability. Capacity for each tour is limited. \nA Vision of History through Fresco…\nMundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The 4\,000 square foot painting is one of the largest frescos in North America. \nThe digitized imagery of the painting ensures that this culturally significant work can be a sharing and learning experience for students and families anywhere.
