For Afro diasporas, food remains one of the most effective means of resistance, of cultural retention, and innovation. The foods of Afro peoples continue to incorporate ingredients of ancestral dishes and to preserve African ways of preparing ingredients native to the Americas. Presenters will discuss the African roots of various dishes and defy stereotypes of what “soul” food is. AfroMundo Festival: Resistance & Creativity: Inclusive Narratives

This short documentary explores the importance of investing in and sharing stories created by Black, Indigenous, and Peoples of Color (BIPOC) filmmakers and storytellers. Live via Zoom or in-person9:30 am on the 4th Tuesday of each month Our Colcha community Workshop is open to all levels of experience in an informal setting. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught this art form to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist, most recently recognized in 2019 at Santa Fe Spanish Market. Annette will demonstrate as well as answer questions.
