Family Tour with Ultima

2 pm Join us for a family-friendly tour of the NHCC Art Museum exhibition, La Ultima Exhibición. All generations will gain new perspectives about art during this unique museum experience led by María Dolores Gonzales who represents Ultima’s perspective. María Dolores Gonzales is an artist and writer and runs a Spanish language immersion program in Northern New Mexico. Seeing Double: Paired Perspective Museum Tours

2 pm Join us for a special tour of the NHCC Art Museum exhibition, La Ultima Exhibición. Led by two different specialists with two distinct perspectives, it’s sure to have you seeing the artwork in new ways! The tour will be led by Dr. Eliseo Torres, author and scholar of Curanderismo at the University of New Mexico and Tonita Gonzales, Curandera and educator, who will discuss Bless Me, Ultima and La Ultima Exhibición from the perspective of traditional healing. Opening Reception for La Ultima Exhibición

5:30 to 7:30 pm | NHCC Art Museum La Ultima Exhibición, curated by Augustine Romero, features visual interpretations of Rudolfo Anaya’s celebrated book, Bless Me, Ultima (1972)-a portrait of life in rural New Mexico as seen through the eyes of a young boy during World War II. Anaya tells of the spiritual healer, Ultima, as she guides young Antonio on a magical and moral journey in this novel that has inspired artists for decades. The Art of Christmas: New Mexico Style

Art Museum hours and prices HERE This exhibit features approximately 430 handmade ornaments by more than 125 New Mexican artists that have been collected by the Duran family (Matt, Jeanette, and their son Gabriel) over nearly 20 years. Matt and Jeanette began collecting Christmas ornaments in 2000 and there first tree was only 4 feet tall. Now, the ornaments are displayed on a number of trees in their home including one that is 15 feet tall. You can explore this impressive collection in the NHCC Art Museum between December (more…)

Opening Reception for The Piñata Exhibit (Sure to be a Smash Hit!)

6 pm to 8 pm The Piñata Exhibit (Sure to be a Smash Hit!) celebrates this popular art form with over 175 examples from Mexico, California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas and New Mexico. Traditional and iconic works, alongside creations by contemporary piñata artists, illustrate how piñatas maintain their historical and social importance while also reflecting transnational shifts in popular, political, and visual culture. Outstanding in His Field: San Ysidro—Patron Saint of Farmers

Art Museum hours and prices HERE Each spring, New Mexico communities celebrate San Ysidro (aka San Isidro or Saint Isidore) the patron saint of farmers, gardeners, and workers.
